Coupon Books on Ebay

Recommended Posts

Looking for a little advice/insight here. My friends and I are going on our first cruise next month on Majesty of the Seas. I found the following ebay auctions for the value booklets.

Do you think there would be any problems for me to use these coupons even though I'm not a Diamond or Gold member? I'm also not sure if it will be really worth it...I would use the bar coupon, johnny rockets coupon, slot tokens and the free picture one. Is the bar coupon only one time use? If it's unlimited, then I would definitely get the booklet! lol

The value of the booklets are probably less than $50.00. What were you going to pay for it?

The drink coupon is a one-time deal.

It's very likely you'll find a booklet in your cabin--folks leave them behind all the time. And no, they don't check to see if you should have them--at least, we've never been questioned, nor have any of our friends.

I'd not buy them. We get them in our cabin free since we are Crown and Anchor members, but the booklets really aren't worth all that much. A free drink (buy one/get one free) is about all we've ever used out of them and then we leave them behind. And yes, the bar credit is one time only use.

For every coupon listed, you have to spend money, the casino credit is only for a $2.00 play, the spa credit is 10% off a very expensive service, the photo coupon, well, I see some of the same specials at the photo shop that you don't need the coupon for.

It's kind of a shame that people are allowed to sell stuff like this on Ebay, things that they get absolutely free and sell to unsuspecting buyers.

But don't feel bad, they make it look like you're going to save hundreds of $$ for just a small outlay of cash. I'd really be surprised is the cost covered the savings.

Another warning. Although I've not gone to the shopping talks (I don't care to shop on vacation), they will offer a book (for sale, not free) for freebies in port. From what I;ve read on these boards, you will chase your tail trying to get the free stuff and it is junk. Go see the port instead, shop a little if you have leftover time.

Before you bid on these, they are free to Crown and Anchor members. These people got them free and are asking you to pay $8.00 and up, plus shipping for something that you probably can not use.

On those coupons you have to write your Crown and Anchor number and your sail pass is checked depending on the coupon you use.

Yes, they do check them. I have been checked many times when I used them.

These coupons have an expiration date and most of them have the ships name.

For the money you pay them, you can buy the items on board for less and not be embarrassed when they refuse to let you use them.;)

They are an eBay rip off.

I wouldn't buy them on ebay (maybe I should sell mine LOL). However, that being said...I've used the 2.00 in the casino--and they just give you the two dollars without taking any cash out, the drink coupons, the 5.00 match play, the Latte tudes, and the photo coupons. I've used most of these on 4 different cruises. I've never had to fill out the spot to put your name, cabin, etc. and I've never had them check my sea pass card or so much as anything verify. I've also never seen the ship name listed on them. I'm not saying they may not on some cruises, just none that I have been on. I've taken some from books on one cruise and used them on my next one also. Never had a problem. Again, they do have the option to start asking for them.

All that being said, they're still not really "worth" anything. On the last two cruises in the lattetudes, they never even took the 25% or whatever it was off..I was charged full price, but they gave me a free pastry. I have no idea why.

So glad you guys are here :D Thanks for all the quick responses!! I'm starting to get addicted to this board and I've only cruised once (about 10 years ago!!)

Who did you cruise with 10 years ago? If it was RC, you could try to join the Crown and Anchor society before you cruise, and a coupon book (Gold) will be waiting for you in your stateroom, for free. Our friends who are joining us next month on an RC cruise mentioned they had cruised once before, about 13 to 15 years ago, with RC. I suggested they check on joining C&A and they were able to. :) RC counted their prior cruise, even though it was on a ship retired some time ago. (Viking Serenade I believe.) You need only 1 prior RC cruise to join C&A and start getting perks such as the coupon book. SMN

Hi,

Just so you know next time.

When you buy a coffee at lattetudes or Seattle coffee places on the ships, all of those goodies you see in the cases are free. ;)

Unfortunately, it was with Carnival but thanks for the heads up!

Thanks for all the replies. I too was thinking of bidding on these booklets. I will be spending money on coffee, drinks and at the spa anyway, so I was just looking to defray some costs. I think I'll pass since it seems like the winning bids far exceed some of the values of the books. I'm also concerned about not being able to use them since this is our first cruise on RCI. Glad I have my Cruisecritic board buddies looking out for me!

I'd say you have about a 50/50 chance of being embarrassed :p . I've had C&A booklets on 5 of my cruises, and I believe I've been asked for my seapass card about half the time. Sometimes they also have me write in my C&A number on the coupon. So, it's the luck of the draw, I guess  .

Gee...thanks. And I thought they were being nice to me so I didn't complain about not taking the 25% off ;)

You dont have to spend money if you get the D/DP coupons.........free drink, free photo(neither is a BOGO).......

Johnny Rockets asked us for our cards to use the free visit. Also the internet coupon needs to be taken to the purser desk and they also have looked up our crown and anchor number.

The bar and lattitudes do take your card so for the balance, so I don't know if they checked our status.

I wouldn't buy these books at all. For example, if you wanted to use the Spa discount coupon, you need to show your Sea Pass to have the charges added to it and your pass would not show Gold, Platinum or Diamond cruiser. We had to show our card a few times when using the coupons, so, you could be highly embarassed.

I do believe some people would sell their souls if they thought they could get enough money for it. I think what upsets me the most is that these are given free, and people like this might make RCI decide to stop giving the booklets.

Enough of my rant. Enjoy your cruise and the one after that, you will get coupons that are legitimately yours.

Katie
