majosa Posted March 23, 2007 #1 Share Posted March 23, 2007 Okay my DH and i are booked for our first cruise for September. We are not the formal type couple yet we dont want to miss out on the photo opportunity. How dressy do we have to be? Can he wear a pair of tan slacks and dress shirt and be okay? And when it comes to me can i wear a really nice Sunday dress?
big_duck Posted March 23, 2007 #2 Share Posted March 23, 2007 As per Carnival, jacket and tie is the minimum. Sunday dress would be fine.
French_Fry Posted March 23, 2007 #3 Share Posted March 23, 2007 Formal equals suit jacket and tie collared shirt and dress slacks for men with dress shoes and socks, at the least. For women at the very least it equals a dressy pants suit or a dress or skirt and blouse.
Kurbanfan Posted March 23, 2007 #4 Share Posted March 23, 2007 If you are asking about dressing formal for photos......You won't have a problem wearing that for the photo shoot.....
morella888 Posted March 23, 2007 #5 Share Posted March 23, 2007 While the stated policy is a jacket on formal night, in practice they probably wouldn't refuse you entry if he was wearing khakis/collared shirt & tie and you a dress. To everyone else: don't get mad, just stating what I've observed.
frog lover Posted March 23, 2007 #6 Share Posted March 23, 2007 On Victory last week the guys wore a jacket and tie, girls wore dresses (like what you would wear to a summer wedding). I could care less what other people were wearing we all had a great time dressing up it was fun!:) I wore the same dress both nights Monday and Friday. The formal pics you can wear whatever you want they are not in the dinning room most are near the casino or up by the atrium. hdawson Posted March 23, 2007 #7 Share Posted March 23, 2007 About 10 -15% will ignore the dress standards. If you don't meet the bare minimum standards as stated by Carnival, you may be referred to the Lido Buffet.
teachesfirst Posted March 23, 2007 #8 Share Posted March 23, 2007 Did most children have on jackets? I was going to do shirt and tie for the second night. Wasn't thinking really. Not much time to get a jacket tomorrow. I know the site says same for children - but did most comply?
morella888 Posted March 23, 2007 #9 Share Posted March 23, 2007 I've seen young boys with jackets, but I've seen plenty without. As long as they are well behaved, I doubt too many people will even pay attention to what they're wearing.

They did have on white dress shirts and super cute kids ties with black dress pants and dress shoes. No one said a thing. They were well behaved and looked simply adorable! MrPete Posted March 23, 2007 #11 Share Posted March 23, 2007 You can wear anything you want for your photos. The dress code for the dining room is something entirely different.
Astronomer Posted March 23, 2007 #12 Share Posted March 23, 2007 After our first cruise it is a simple choice for me. Moondance ( my wife ) and I dont always take that many formal pictures, nor do we often attend a mor formal dinner, it is a delightful experience. I will order a Tux through Carnival ( or whatever curise line ) so I have it there waiting for me, nothing to pack. It is worth it... even in you are not norally formal folks, I highly reccomend it. bluefins Posted March 24, 2007 #13 Share Posted March 24, 2007 OK - jackets for the guys, no jackets for the boys - what about young men (17 & 18). Are they considered adult enough to have to wear a jacket or young enough to just be in dress pants, button down shirt & tie?

caribbean dreams Posted March 24, 2007 #15 Share Posted March 24, 2007 Sense this is your first cruise, i would really recommend dressing up in a suite, tie & cocktail dress, you may not think you are much of the formal type but you would be suprised at how nice you feel, getting formal pictures taken and having a nice elegant evening. If you decide you don't like it than on your next cruise you can just opt for the Lido buffet.
