glitteryone Posted March 29, 2007 #1 Share Posted March 29, 2007 Hi, I am travelling on Serenade of the Seas this Saturday and I was wondering what the policy about ironing is on the ship. Can you bring a travel iron? Is there some place you can iron on board the ship?? Any info would be appreciated...thanks :)
StormGoddess Posted March 29, 2007 #2 Share Posted March 29, 2007 Travel irons are not permitted on board RCI ships. There is no place you can go to iron your own clothers. Clothing may be sent down to the laundry facilities for pressing, and it is pretty reasonably priced.
Cruisin' Ya Ya Posted March 29, 2007 #3 Share Posted March 29, 2007 I am pretty sure they don't allow irons. Fire hazard!
glitteryone Posted March 29, 2007 Author #4 Share Posted March 29, 2007 How long is the turn around on clothes sent down for pressing? Can it be done the same day or does it have to be a couple of days in advance?
bankonus Posted March 29, 2007 #5 Share Posted March 29, 2007 I have always brought a travel iron and done this my first hour on the ship. But after seeing how low the prices are...I threw my iron overboard!! :p
bankonus Posted March 29, 2007 #6 Share Posted March 29, 2007 Send down the first day everything you need, back the next day by 4 they tell me!!

But I read here somewhere that you can pay a little more and have it expidited same day service.
Pumbaamd Posted March 29, 2007 #8 Share Posted March 29, 2007 We've done this service and highly recommend it. Faster service costs a little extra. Regular service is fine. Quality for us has been excellent. Don't bring your iron!
glitteryone Posted March 29, 2007 Author #9 Share Posted March 29, 2007 :) Ok the service sounds great. My boyfriend was more concerned than I was...but it is good to know. I don't think he is feeling to confident about his dress clothes arriving in such great shape. THanks !! :)
Lightsluvr Posted March 29, 2007 #10 Share Posted March 29, 2007 Send down the first day everything you need, back the next day by 4 they tell me!! Whoever told you that is leading you astray. Have your dirty clothes picked up by mid-morning, they are back the next evening. As previously stated, good service and priced cheaper than my local dry-cleaner. I take my dry-cleanable clothes dirty in a plastic bag, and have the ship's laundry clean them. PhoenixCruiser Posted March 29, 2007 #11 Share Posted March 29, 2007 Send down the first day everything you need, back the next day by 4 they tell me!! That has been our experience on all of our cruises with RCI, give your clothes to the Steward the first evening and everything is back in the closet by 4-5 the next day :D They do a great job and are cheaper than our Dry Cleaners at home :) ###
Cruising89143 Posted March 29, 2007 #12 Share Posted March 29, 2007 You can also pay for express service if needed. I agree that they do a great job.
pcur Posted March 29, 2007 #13 Share Posted March 29, 2007 I do both. Really wrinkled or dressy clothes to the steward and cleaners on the first night, and they are hanging in the cabin the next afternoon before dinner. I also take a travel STEAMER (doesn't get hot to the touch), and steam my clothes on the hangers as I hang them in the closet. Of course, I am an ironing NUTSO-FREAK, have an ironing board cupboard in my closet at home, so maybe you shouldn't listen to me..........:D

Maybe there are times it's not there right at 4, but alot have told me there's was earlier than stated.:)
glitteryone Posted March 29, 2007 Author #15 Share Posted March 29, 2007 So a travel steamer is acceptable? Maybe I will go pick one up today. A lot of my tops need a steamer rather than an iron anyway!
Lightsluvr Posted March 29, 2007 #16 Share Posted March 29, 2007 A travel steamer is okay... so is Downey Wrinkle Release in those handy travel-sized spray bottles... Bon voyage. LL
glitteryone Posted March 29, 2007 Author #17 Share Posted March 29, 2007 Thanks already found the downy wrinkle releaser! :) Will pass on steamer this time around, if it is that bad we can always have it pressed on the ship!! Thanks for all your input!
emdia43 Posted March 29, 2007 #18 Share Posted March 29, 2007 If you get dry cleaner thickness plastic bags and place one between each layer of clothing you won't have any wrinkles. Before I knew travel irons were banned I took one but didn't need to use it after I learned the plastic baggy trick. If you have a Tux or evening clothes just stuff them in the bag and send them to be pressed in time for your formal night.
