Bases5 Posted March 31, 2007 #1 Share Posted March 31, 2007 Cancun (Calica), Mexico Where exactly is the port. I was looking at the Fascination and this was the port. I have also read that no ship actually docks in Cancun. Please all wise one's help me out.
Bad_deal Posted April 1, 2007 #2 Share Posted April 1, 2007 Imagination docked at a Quarry (seriously). 3/25/07 is when we were there. It is a 10 minute ride to town, I would advise not going on the shopping spree to Cancun, as it is a waste of time there. They drop you off at a mall, with only 2 hours to shop. Some of the guests went on a ferry to a beach.
TNtraveler Posted May 6, 2007 #3 Share Posted May 6, 2007 Calica isn't terribly near Cancun, but rather Playa del Carmen, 40 miles down the coast -- more or less directly opposite Cozumel. A Cancun excursion would be an all-day affair, unnecessary with all the things available to do in PdC. The Calica port itself is alongside a working rock quarry -- the ship's gangway, as you exit, extends over a rock conveyor -- but taxis and other transportation are readily available, including rental vehicles, and Playa is only a 10-minute commute. Excaret eco-park is directly across the inlet. Akumal, a half-hour south, offers good snorkeling -- both from shore and boat -- while Puerto Aventuras, halfway between PdC and Akumal, has a Dolphin Discovery location where you can interact with some non-human mammals after your time onboard:D . The seaside ruins at Tulum are about 30 miles south of the port. In short, forget Cancun and enjoy the Mayan Riviera instead.
BSQ Posted May 7, 2007 #4 Share Posted May 7, 2007 you are correct, no cruise ships actually dock in Cancun. I think TNTraveler has summed it up very well and given excellent advice.
