alecsmom Posted August 5, 2004 #1 Share Posted August 5, 2004 I don't know if anyone's posted this already but I just noticed that Royal Caribbean is bringing the Splendour back to Galveston for 4 and 5 night cruises late 2005 and early 2006! Hooray!!

Bookit Posted August 5, 2004 #4 Share Posted August 5, 2004 Our last exerience on Splendour (5 Day Cruise on 04/28/04) -- While the ship was beautifully reburbished, and we have no complaints as to service, staff attitude, we both had complaints as to the crowd. I should have known what I was in for -- when going to the dining room for breakfast, a tank top, tattoo plentiful guy was leaving ... toothpick in mouth so I'm he was served. With the exception of our first cruise (Carnival Celebration) -- also a 5 day -- it was the slam-down-shooters-at-the-pool bar, cut off jean shorts, and straw hat crowd. Then, there was the 60 or so group from Dallas -- who proceeded to make much of the ship a "mall hang out" ("or hoops") experience -- this was a group of young adults, and I hardly ever saw older (as in chaperones) with them. O.K. - I am also really bummed that the departure was complete chaos (unlike other RCI cruises) -- when it was announced that the ship had cleared customs, a mad rush for all the stairs and elevators. It was a dangerous situation with all the wheelchairs, walkers, and just, in general. By the time, we got to our luggage, 1 piece was missing. We believe it was taken from the hallway the night before -- either by a passenger (don't doubt the group we had), or by crew (sure hate to think they would), or by the porters unloading ... soooo, after a $2,000. loss -- I truly don't know if I want to cruise anymore. Just our experience on a 5 day cruise from Galveston -- that it definitely attracts a different clientele than the longer cruises ...) springtxbill Posted August 5, 2004 #5 Share Posted August 5, 2004 Once the new terminal is finished next year, I look for a lot more choices out of Galveston. A 4 and 5 day choice would be great.:D
alecsmom Posted August 5, 2004 Author #6 Share Posted August 5, 2004 I found the information on Travelocity's website doing a search of Galveston cruises. It looks like the Splendour will start 4 and 5 nights in November 2005 and go through April 2006.
momofmeg Posted August 5, 2004 #7 Share Posted August 5, 2004 I know she is replacing Empress of the Seas (formally Nordic Empress) this fall and winter in Tampa. I wonder what ship will do Tampa in 2005-2006 winter. I would love to see them put a voyager class there as that is close enough we can drive there. Mariner is so expensive out of Pt. Canaraval, more so then Navigator, Explorer or Voyager. I guess it is because lots of people are like me-hate flying but want to go on a voyager class ship. Anyone know what ship will replace Splendor? To the person who posted about the uncouth nuts on the 5 day cruise. it is true that the shorter cruises seen to bring out these type of people. I believe this is because these cruises are more affordable and so they bring out the blue collar people and the college students. Now don't blast me I am from a blue collar background-I am still middle class. It is just sadly this is true. I think that is why Carnival gets such a bad rep-they have so many of the shorter more affordable cruises. I have seen a few nuts on thoses cruises too- (ex- a drunk best man going down the pool slide in a tux) but my worst experience was on Sovereign when we had a hateful obnoxious drunk like 2 tables away at second seating dinner the first night. We did not see him after that-I don't know if he was too embarrassed once he sobered up or possibly he was escorted off the ship; but I really felt STRONGLY he should have been escorted out of the dinning room that night. He made everyone around him miserable. That same cruise were a bunch of drunk college students throwing one another FULLY CLOTHED in the lido pool-I never even saw one crew member even approach them and we watched them for like 45 minutes. sailor moon Posted August 5, 2004 #8 Share Posted August 5, 2004 We were on the April 22 sailing and had a blast. No cruise is "perfect", but I would do this short cruise again in a heart beat.
camreesmom Posted August 6, 2004 #9 Share Posted August 6, 2004 We were on the Splendour 5 day in March and it was wonderful! We didn't have any problems with the crowd on our sailing. Crew was wonderful, the ship was beautiful and we met lots of new friends! :D

travellady Posted August 24, 2004 #11 Share Posted August 24, 2004 I noticed a Splendour 9 day out of Galveston for Xmas 2005/New Years 2006. I am already booked with Princess for that time frame but this was the one RCCL cruise that has peaked my interest due to ports and it being a 9 day for a decent price. Will this ship have enough to offer a then 12 year old boy for this length of time? Are the oceanview stateroom a size where we won't feel too cramped for 9 days - there will be 3 of us in the cabin. Any enough you can provide in helping me make this decision would be great.
