goneclear Posted April 17, 2007 #2 Share Posted April 17, 2007 Hi happy crusin. Trinidad is going through a major building boom and the port area is a mess with high rise buildings going up. Dont let it put you off, there will be port approved taxis at the port. I recommend you take a taxi to Maracas beach, it's about 45-50 mins from the port, the drive will take you over the northern mountain range (Avg 2700 ft) through rain forest and comming out onto the North coast of Trinidad with great views and then you will decend to Maracas beach. nice beach, at the beach try a local delicacy shark and bake. They are great.
cruises for two Posted April 23, 2007 #3 Share Posted April 23, 2007 We have just returned from Trinidad and would go back at the drop of a hat. It is probably one of the most civilized islands we have been to. We found a wonderful gentleman, named Ty, to show us around and go where the ship's tours do not go. We had a full day of touring, including a trip to the beach, with a lunch of bake and shark (which is delicious by the way) and we also got to hear the steel drums, a trip to the Monastery, a visit to a cricket match, and then we went to see the Carnival costumes on display and being made. Ty is a wonderful person and a great guide. If anyone is looking for a great time in Trinidad, please write to Ty at tytrini@yahoo.com and see if he is available to show you his beautiful island.:)
