molcajete-mortar&pestle (Cozumel)

Does anyone know where I could buy a molcajete--stone mortar & pestle, not too far from the port? My friend is looking for the one with the pig's face on it. Any idea of price? Thanks

Never saw any with a pig's face on it, but they had a ton of mortar and pestle made of I think onyx or some type of stone. They were sold widely all over Cozumel.

Molcajetes are made out of a porous volcanic rock. The little faces on them are common. I can buy them locally at certain grocery stores.

You could try loscinosoles.com. They have a huge store in Cozumel and sell lots of pottery. You can contact them and see if they have anything and they could send you pictures perhaps of what you might like. It is a great store and I spend at least $100 there every time I go (not to mention a meal at Pancho's as well).

Yes, I am looking for the volcanic rock one. I've been to Los Cinco Soles, but wasn't looking for one back then, so I'll check this time around. Has anyone been to El Mercado municipal or the Chedraui store? Interested in knowing if they are worth going to & how far from the dock (taxi $??). Thanks again everyone!
