DanniC Posted April 23, 2007 #26 Share Posted April 23, 2007 I would not go see a movie on a sunny day either. I would see one at night if somehow it was on the lido deck. I would probally go in the evening also in a theater.
picklebongo Posted April 23, 2007 #27 Share Posted April 23, 2007 Absolutely they should have movies. Just because some folks wouldn't go see them shouldn't negate putting them on for those who might enjoy having them. As some have mentioned, tea, art auctions, Newlywed Game and lots of other things aren't for everybody, but it's about choices. I would love to see a planetarium, wouldn't be something everybody would enjoy, but it would be a great experience for some.
DanniC Posted April 23, 2007 #28 Share Posted April 23, 2007 Planetarium sounds good. My only suggestion is the planetarium or theater should not be as cold as at home. It just makes me sleepy when its so cold:D
S.S.Oceanlover Posted April 23, 2007 #29 Share Posted April 23, 2007 The movies shown on the Carnival Miracle were old movies in a lounge. What I am talking about is during the day movies being shown in the Carnival theater...the dancers don't need the theater all day obviously since they use it for Bingo alot. Going to a theater is totally different than watching one on the small TV screen in your room. If Princess and others can do it, why can't Carnival? Not everyone wants to spend the entire day at the pool. You would be amazed how packed the theater was on the Princess ships and they would use the same theater as the shows were in at night. I only know of one Carnival ship that has an outdoor theater, several of Princess ships have them but I do like the indoor ones better. The way I see is they are already paying for the movies they have to be shown on your TV, they have the equipment to show movies in the theater, why not have the movies shown in the theater? If the showroom was filled with people watching FREE movies they wouldn't be out and about bloating their S & S account. Bill
bguppies Posted April 23, 2007 #30 Share Posted April 23, 2007 If the showroom was filled with people watching FREE movies they wouldn't be out and about bloating their S & S account. Bill They had no trouble selling drinks during Bingo or the Newlywed Games in the main show lounge. Why would they have problems selling drinks before the start of the movie? If they wanted to, have an intermission for bathroom breaks and more drinks sold? People passing in and out and waiters moving throught the movies in the aft lounge currently didn't seem to bother people too much. (not like you can be pissed and ask for your admission price back.) maddea20 Posted April 23, 2007 #31 Share Posted April 23, 2007 Carnival has so much to offer with its wonderful beds, large cabins and showers, great service and food that has actually been better than Princess. I really feel the main thing Carnival lacks is showing movies in the theater. Princess shows several current (before they come out on DVD) movies a day in their theater and I know Carnival has the screen and equipment to do so but Princess has awful beds, no 24 hour pizza, no free icecreme and no fruit punch or lemonade. Showing movies would really give an edge over some competition. Yeah, I know some people don't go on a cruise to see movies but you can say that about every activity including suntanning and swimming. Catching up or vegetating watching a movie is relaxing. What do others think about Carnival should start offering current movies in the theater? It's a great idea.
S.S.Oceanlover Posted April 23, 2007 #32 Share Posted April 23, 2007 Just speculation on my part. I would like the movie theater. When we cruised on Disney in August I went to their movie theater onboard and watched movies about 4 of the 7 nights. Bill

Some people cannot take the sun or heat all day and sitting in a nice dark cool theater is relaxing but you can't knock it unless you tried it. Would it bother those that choose not to go to the movie?

angelkisses Posted April 23, 2007 #39 Share Posted April 23, 2007 I would love to see a movie theatre on ship. And as far as revenue ... they would generate more with the sale of drinks, popcorn, and candy. If they are current movies they could even charge a dollar ot two for admission. I read somewhere they showed the Rocky Horror Picture Show aboard the Liberty on the big Lido Screen .... now that would be fun! What a great opportunity to embarrass the kids. The afternoon movies may also appeal to more of the senior citizens who do not prefer activities on the lido deck.... it would give them one more option to the casino and bingo. Also my daughter (TEEN) would enjoy a late night movie shown after the disco. I'm like some of the previous posters ... if you put me in my cabin for a movie with those carnival beds I would fall asleep in about 15 minutes. I usually do not find time in my busy schedule to go to the movies. Having a theatre on board would be another nice amenity for me to relax and enjoy something I rarely get to do at home. Also it would be a great place to broadcast some of the big games and could you imagine the beer sales during a championship game. Of course, I guess they already do that in some of the bars. Our schedule also doesn't allow time for going out to the movies. The closest movie theater is a hour away so we wait until it come out on the premium movie channels so having Carnival show the newer movies would be wonderful. On Princess they showed 2 during the day and one at midnight. I'm sure Carnival could do the same if not in the theater then in one of their lounges and give people another choice of entertainment. caribbean dreams Posted April 23, 2007 #42 Share Posted April 23, 2007 I can just see it now, if a theater was put in all the ships, there would be plenty of new threads: ~"To many screaming unattended kids in the movie theater" ~"People and walkie talkies in the threater" ~"Chair hogs in the theater" ~"Can i bring my rolling ice chest in the threater and pretend i'm at the drive in?" ~"Little johnny didn't like the movie, whats UB's e-mail address so i can complain"

JulieMcCoy Posted April 23, 2007 #47 Share Posted April 23, 2007 I vote yes, definitely! The movie theater was one thing Disney had that I missed on my other cruises. On our seven-day, I enjoyed going to a movie about 3 p.m. on a sea day, after I'd already baked myself in the sun for several hours. Disney gets a little revenue out of it by making the concession stand outside the theater be a pay-for-candy pace. We also really liked going to a brand-new movie one night. That was the main show for the night. Of course, Disney has its own movie company, so they were able to show a movie on board the same night it premiered in theaters - it was great! I would even be happy, though, for a not-yet-on-DVD movie in the theater in place of the show one night, but then I'm not much for the Vegas-style shows. june1300 Posted April 23, 2007 #48 Share Posted April 23, 2007 we did the in room movies one night last cruise when I wasent feeling well.....we all loved that option, being in jammies, ordered room service and vegging out for the night, even the kids really enjoyed that night. I am fine with movies in the room rather than a theater (which we had done when we first started cruiseing, still like in room movies better)
