Should Carnival Have Movies in Theater?

CrusinAgain

Recommended Posts

I have cruised with Princess and Disney (Carnival a long time ago). We are scheduled to sail with Carnival again this Sept on a 12 day cruise (5 sea days).

Even on our 4 day Disney and mostly 7 day Princess, we have found that a nice cool movie theatre in the middle on a sea day is fabulous. Disney had the full treatment while we have enjoyed the lounges and outdoor screen on Princess.

Although I enjoy in-room movies, I agree that once in the comfort of the cabin (or bed), I'd be sleeping in a minute.

Bring theatre or lounge movies to Carnival, please - hopefully before Sept!

They had a movie theater on my very first cruise (way back when) in the early 80s. I'm not even sure of the ship name now but I think it may have been the Tropicale (sp?). It was a 3 day from MIA or FLL (can't remember) to Nassau. Even as a young adult I did not partake in most of the night life activities but I do remember enjoying having the choice to see a movie. (It was the movie "Mask", starring Cher. I had not seen it before so it was a 1st run movie to me. I'm going to try to find the pictures I had taken on that cruise, if for no other reason, to make some comparisons between the 'then' and 'now'. Choice is good.

I can just see it now, if a theater was put in all the ships, there would be plenty of new threads:

~"To many screaming unattended kids in the movie theater"

~"People and walkie talkies in the threater"

~"Chair hogs in the theater"

~"Can i bring my rolling ice chest in the threater and pretend i'm at the drive in?"

~"Little johnny didn't like the movie, whats UB's e-mail address so i can complain"

Is formal attire required or could I wear my jeans and smoke my after dinner cigar? :D

Just got off the Liberty and they have a HUGE screen outside just above the Lido deck pool. The seats opposite the screen are kind of stair-stepped like a theater so everyone can see the screen. They showed the same moveies @ night on the big screen that they showed on the in-cabin TV. It's pretty cool....It's like being at a drive in only you're sprawled out on a deck chair with a good drink and a cuban cigar (just my idea of a great time).

Thanks so much for everyone giving your opinions. Of course, Carnival should have the movies on the TV in your cabin for vegging out also. Princess does. Some of the movies we saw on last month's Princess trip were: The Queen, Happy Feet, Charlotte's Web, Little Miss Sunshine, Stranger than Friction, The Prestige, You, Me, and Dupree, Casino Royale and The Illusionist.

So if Princess can show 3 channels of movie in their cabins and 2-3 movies a day in a lounge or theater, Carnival could also. I hope they consider it because we really like Carnival better for alot of things than we do Princess.

I would like movies on the ship... it is a good alternative activity that families can do together. We went in December on Princess and while the pools were packed, we went to a movie and my kids loved it! I loved it! Comfortable and PACKED! It was a new release at the time and I think they had several of them we went twice on both sea days. We had four ports with tons of sun, and it was something different. We don't go to the art shows (other passengers are thankful of that!) The more families, the more activities they need for them. The art action is great, the bar is great, so is the newlywed games..... but not for kids.

Carnival has so much to offer with its wonderful beds, large cabins and showers, great service and food that has actually been better than Princess. I really feel the main thing Carnival lacks is showing movies in the theater. Princess shows several current (before they come out on DVD) movies a day in their theater and I know Carnival has the screen and equipment to do so but Princess has awful beds, no 24 hour pizza, no free icecreme and no fruit punch or lemonade. Showing movies would really give an edge over some competition.

Yeah, I know some people don't go on a cruise to see movies but you can say that about every activity including suntanning and swimming. Catching up or vegetating watching a movie is relaxing.

What do others think about Carnival should start offering current movies in the theater?

We got off the Carnival Spirit a week ago. They showed movies on the cabin TVs but also showed movies once or twice a day in one of the lounges. They had a large screen, good sound etc. and comfy seats. Just NO POPCORN!!!! LOL Had to bring our own snacks. We saw Night in the Museum and The Queen.

In the cabins they had 3 different movies with times listed (usually about 3 or 4 showings a day) available PLUS they now offer Pay Per View movies too.
