Which aft corner on Voyager class?

Recommended Posts

We had 7408 on Freedom. (same as 7388 on Voyager class). We LOVED that cabin. Balcony was huge and we even had 2 loungers. But next time, I am gonny try to get 1388/1688 on Mariner. Just cause of how highly Bonnie speaks of them. Bonnie, you better be right....:D :D :D

Hi Bonnie Voyager,

Do you know if you can get some sun on the Voyager class cabin 7388 (specifically Explorer of the Seas) or is it covered completely?

Barb C

I would imagine that depending on the time of day and direction traveled, you would get sun at some point on your balcony. But it is mostly covered.

Deck 7 corner/aft balcony is better but deck 10 corner/aft cabin is better. We've always had 2 loungers, 2 upright chairs, and 1 small table on the balcony of 1688 with room to spare. It's not as large as 7688 but it is still pretty large and has a sunny area and a shady area. The cabin is the big bonus with 1688. It is as large as a JS but without the larger bathroom or walk-in closet and with the pricetag of a D1 instead of JS! ;)

Thanks, Bonnie. Now I just have to decide whether to book Mariner or Liberty. Hmmmm. Why is the choice always so hard for me?!? ;)

Yes, that is a hard choice! But since I've already booked my aft cabin on Liberty, she gets my nod! We loved Freedom so Liberty is an easy choice. FitzLA, I had to laugh when I just noticed your little snip-it in your signature about there being no "s" in Portofino! :D That mispronunciation that occurs rather frequently on these boards just happens to be one of my pet peeves! PORTOFINO! PORTOFINO! PORTOFINO! NOT PORTOFINOS :p Okay, I feel better now! I'm glad I'm not the only one who notices that. I know it isn't important so until now I have just suffered silently but it's nice to know I'm not alone. ;)

Bonnie, you know there is help for this sort of thing...Makes me want to go back and check my posts now to see if I've been a "Portofino(s)" violator or not. But, I'm choosing the healthy path and am not going to indulge in that paranoia...maybe.

Okay, now that you've seen my "dark" side, you may not want to claim me as a friend.

EBQ and I don't scare that easily. I do the dark side on a daily basis.

Thanks for all the great info!

I ended up going with a corner on deck 9. Other corners were available, but I didn't really like all the structure around and above the deck 7 corner balcony, however, if I had a large group and were going to have a party it would be awsome!

What are the advantages/disadvantages of the oddball door on the 9th deck corner afts? I have no problem changing cabins if I improve things.

We've stayed on deck 10 twice, and have booked corner twice (before taking an upgrade once but I digress). You probably know that with those 9th deck corner rooms you'll trade the long sliding glass balcony door for a narrow door next to the round porthole that is so wide that a lot of people sit in it when inside the cabin. Believe Bonnie mentioned that earlier in this thread. Up that high, the view is pretty good out over the aft superstructure. Plenty of water in front of you. Pretty good privacy too. You did well!

Actually its PORNOFINOS for some of us after a lot of CC members got together in there one night a couple of years back on the Voyager. LOL

I just booked the 1688 on the Mariner. I usually get 7388 (love that balcony)

but wanted to see what the bigger cabin was like as well as that balcony.

Oh yell, and not to mention it will be my birthday on that cruise so I guess the pole might just come in handy too.

You've already acknowledged the trade-offs. I think you'll understand our love for the Voyager corner-afts. While we were on Voyager last year, we walked down to see 7388 because I wanted to step onto that enormous balcony. It's really something! I do think the much larger cabin in 1688 will spoil you. Floor space and extra seating is incredible. Balcony is still big, but not nearly in 7388's league. Then again, not much is. Enjoy.

Yes. You'll love it. I was in 9690 (opposite) on Explorer last month. Click my webshots for pics.

I have 9690 booked on Mariner for 2009, it seems people either love this cabin or hate this cabin. I think it looks really nice, I like the round window and single door. Did you have to ask for the loungers or were they already there??

I just cancelled a Carnival Cruise on the Liberty and switched to the Mariner of the Seas 4/13/08 and I had my TA ask for aft availability. She came back and advised I was booked in 7688. After reading all of your comments I was extremely happy. I had a 9A wraparound balcony on the Carnival ship that I hated to let go but it seems that I lucked out on this one. I am not much for sitting in the sun and this one looks perfect. Our first balcony and our first time cruising RCI. I booked it as a surprise for my DH and DD. I hope I can hold out till Christmas!

Donna, if you really want to you can keep it quiet. We decided last June to take the in-laws. We had some minor slips, but nothing that tipped them off. I'll just have to watch what I say in the event we decide to do it again. My MILhas been on our roll call and saw how long we were planning this.

It is very hard. I keep finding all of this wonderful information and have no one to tell. That is the part that is killing me. :o I am a cruise planning fanatic! I am still going to try to hold out though. When I do tell them I am not going to let DD know how big the balcony is. She has always wanted a balcony cabin and this will be our first.

I tried to surprise DH with a trip to Vegas for his birthday - booked it back in the end of March. It lasted about 2 weeks before he started talking about us booking a trip there and wanting me to get prices, etc. I had to tell him and ruin my surprise. His bday is 6 days before the trip and I had even talked to his boss and got the time off scheduled in advance. We leave for that trip in 16 days as of today.

aquahound, thanks for your pictures, we just changed from 7690 to 9690 on the Mariner yesterday & have been agonizing if we made the right decision. I think we will be quite happy with our "new" balcony!

The loungers were already there.

I loved this room. I only have one complaint though. One night when the wind was blowing the stack smoke our way, it rained soot and we couldn't stand out there.
