Passport Renewal question

Our passports expired and we sent them off last week for renewal. I believe the form said that it takes 6 weeks to get them back. Has anyone here got them back sooner than 6 weeks? I'm thinking about booking a cruise in September/October.

We renewed our kids' passports last winter and got them back from the New Orleans office in about a week and a half. I think it really depends on the time of year and which passport office yours get sent to--I wouldn't plan on them being back in less than 6 weeks, just in case.

Can't say where I just read this, but someone posted they received their passport (new) in just 11 days. That is really pretty quick. When we did ours it took about 3 weeks to get them, which I feel is also not long. Hope it works and you can take that next cruise soon.

elliar,

Last year we sent in our passports in April since we booked Tahitian Princess for August 2003 and ours expired in Sept 2003. So we send them off and then decide to take a coastal(beginning of May- mothers's day weekend). So we were worried. We did get them and I think it was 3-4 weeks and ours were sent to the Seattle address. Depending on where you are going, a birth certificate may be used as a last minute back-up. Good luck.

Hmmmm, I live in California 2-12 hours from San Francisco. The form I got from our County Recorder's Office, states to send the passport info to a Pittsburgh, PA (800 Ross Street, Room 154) Pittsburgh, PA 15262) Our original passport originated in San Francisco. Well, that's really strange! I also spent $20.00 extra to FedEx it to PA! Here's hoping for a speedy turn around. As soon as I get the passport renewal, I'll be booking! Thanks to all for your replies!

We renewed ours last year. Downloaded the forms online, took our own picture with the digital camera (was tired of the old mug shots we had on the first ones) and it took 2 weeks to get them back. We must have sent them in at the perfect time or something, didn't have a problem at all receiving them. But if we would have been in a hurry, bet they would have taken longer.

We applied for ours at the post office. My hubbys came but mine didn't. They needed my birth certificate cuz I was born in Ireland. Sent mine and birth certificate back priority mail. They even paid for it. Still strange though that they renewed ours out of South Carolina instead of San Francisco.

You US citizens have it good. Here in Canada ours take a minimum of two months (but they say three) and half of the applications have been rejected because the photo won't scan properly and the features won't show up. We have one passport office and fortunately, it is here in town, so I took ours in to ensure that the photos were okay. However, I saw about 40 people whose pictures were rejected at the counter during the three hours I waited in line.
