llamacruiser Posted May 16, 2007 #1 Share Posted May 16, 2007 Disclaimer: This is not an anti-smoking post. Everyone has the right to kill themselves in whatever manner they prefer. I'm going for liver failure myself. I have cruised once before on the Celebrity Galaxy and don't remember experiencing any smoking related issues. When reading about Carnival though I'm a little concerned about my stateroom and whether it will reek of smoke. What is the chance of this being the case? Are there any sensitive non-smokers out there who had a rough time with a smoked-in cabin? Or have they gotten getting the smoke smell out of the cabins down to a science? Thanks for reading! AmberMarie Posted May 16, 2007 #2 Share Posted May 16, 2007 On the cruise I went on last September, our cabin smelled just fine. And I know people were smoking in it, because I found a dirty ash tray (with no butts, though). People were obviously smoking in it, but no smoke smell. :) You could bring febreze just in case. J After 12 cruises I would say more often than not we have had to ask the room steward to come in and sanitize the smoke odor in our cabin when we boarded. I remember when someone I know who smokes went to a hotel and was totally disgusted when they went to their room and had a bad odor in their room. Turned out that after calling the front desk someone came to the room and found a dirty diaper under the bed. I am always amused when they tell the story........what goes around comes around. llamacruiser Posted May 16, 2007 Author #5 Share Posted May 16, 2007 neverpar and Mikel, I appreciate your replies. That's what I figured from my last experience, but at the time I lived with smoker's and thought maybe I just hadn't noticed anything in the room. Now I'm one of those people who can't sleep in a smoking room at a hotel without getting a head cold. Perhaps I should have searched for my answers first, though, as I'm sure this has been discussed plenty before! Thanks again, J
neverpar Posted May 16, 2007 #6 Share Posted May 16, 2007 No problem, it's just that the smoking thing has been beat to death on these boards. Your cabin should be fine, if it does smell of smoke get the steward to spray whatever it is they use, because it does work...

Cotton Posted May 16, 2007 #11 Share Posted May 16, 2007 J - I wish I knew what those stewards use for cleaning. I would buy it by the barrel.:) I've never noticed any odors of any kind, including smoke. I think you'll find that to be the case. Happy cruisin'! CarnivalCruiseLover Posted May 16, 2007 #12 Share Posted May 16, 2007 I have been on many cruises, 4 on Carnival, and every cabin I have been in REEKS of cigarette smoke. The reason they REEK of smoke is because I am chain smoking in them. I smoke in there as much as I can, one after another.

Donna - dsw Posted May 16, 2007 #14 Share Posted May 16, 2007 When you arrrive in your cabin - if you think the smell of anything is bad - call and have housekeeping come and spray your cabin right away. Talk a walk and when you return it will be fine.

Mysticks1 Posted May 16, 2007 #17 Share Posted May 16, 2007 I also can't stand the smell of cigarette smoke and do have problems breathing in smoke. I literally stop up completely. I have never experienced a smoke smell in any cabins. I did have problems around the bars and casino (which I expected). I hated that I couldn't enjoy the piano bar though. :( I always bring a can of Ozium with me just in case. It is a very good odor eliminator. Good for freshening the bathroom too when necessary. :o :D You can buy it at Wal-Mart in the auto air freshener section in a small portable can.
