Carnival Open Bar and Wine Program

Recommended Posts

to charm:

asked the carnival rep.today about this program & she said it was for groups only. the article you posted does not say that so i am wondering? has anyone used this that was not in a group? we'll be sailing in nov. on the liberty.

thanks,

Why not with a CC group cruise? What difference does it make? A group is a group!
Everyone in the group needs to buy in. If you have 100 people 100 people need to participate. Not everyone drinks or drinks that much. Some people don't drink at all or only 2 or 3 drinks a day.

I'm with Molly. Why not a CC group? Is this Crucon's policy??? If so, why can't we find an agency that would book CC'ers with this option? OMG ... I would be so IN on this.

Im going to suggest to Carnival that they allow the purchase of the Drink Card to all Platinum members.

Great idea I love it, but the averages don't work. They know out of 30 people how many drinks will be sold, and they know that at 30 people,it is hard for them to lose.

1. Liability, CC doesnt want to be responsible for the actions of those with an Open Bar Card.

2. Using another agency is not an option.

1. What makes CC liable for my actions? So if I go on a CC group cruise I have to behave a certain way? If I acted up and did something stupid w/ my open bar card in hand, I highly doubt people would blame CC ... I would be the one held responsible, as I am an adult and able to make my own decisions.

2. Why not ???

1. Are you sure they don't want a reputation or have their name hanging around the neck of a bunch of drunk CCers?

2.Do your own math of prices versus cabins ect.

You would need to ask CC...Their position is they wont do a CC group cruise with an Open Bar Card. If you want to a cruise with a Bar card get 30 friends together. People do it all the time without it being an official CC group cruise.

2. $$$$ :)

shame is-- most people dont hold themselves accountable.

If i have a party at my house and someone is drinking and gets in an accident after leaving-- i can be sued for allowing that person to drink and drive.

I do cruise critic group cruises-- and do not drink so for me to sell that kind of cruise would be very expensive for me. Not everyone on a CC group cruise drinks-- if we dont offer it==no one can be felt left out.

  • 4 weeks later...
I will let everyone know how it is when I get back from my OPEN BAR cruise on the Carnival Freedom later this year. Definitely looking forward to having no big bar bill at the end like I usually do.

C'mon and join us. It's going to be a blast and so much fun!

OK, I'll bite . . . what's an open bar cruise?

Read back through the first page of this post and you will find a description ;).

So this is where 30 people in your group all buy the liquor card? I thought this was a cruise designed specifically for the liquor card. I'm jealous, there are only ten of us traveling on 9/22. It would be nice if Carnival offered some sort of a liquor card like they have for the soda card. But . . . I'm sure they make alot of money off the bar. We have a tendency to drink more while on the cruise and never really got wasted but we drank every day. This cruise is longer so we'll see what our bar bill ends up being. We plan on bringing wine on board from all of ports which will help some.

Doing a 12 day Med cruise next August. I'm in!

I can afford the cruise - it's the bar bill that I can't afford.

Except..... it kind of takes all the fun out of getting the bar bill under the door the last day..........

What will I read on the flight home???

You still get the bar bill. The total is zero though!!!:D It shows all of the purchases. I added mine up and saw that I saved $$ over the week having the open bar card.

Ok, so you can only pre pay your drinks if your travelling in a group? What if there are only 2 of you, is there a pre pay programme for couples or small groups? (Of the alcoholic kind!!!!)

Think it's a bit unfair that groups can pre pay a drink programme but the rest of us can't!!!

$200 pp is a fab offer and I want it!!!!

Just find 14 other couples and you are Golden. Carnival is NEVER going to just let any couple sign up for this program. Liquor sales are far too important to the bottom line.

Well, not only that, but if they start selling liquor cards to individuals, they know exactly what's going to happen. Half the people on this board are too cheap to pay $38.50 for a soda card for each person in their party, what makes them think that Mr. and Mrs. Cheapskate are EACH going to buy a $200 liquor card when they can just buy one and share it? I mean, after all, once you go to the bar and get your drink, there's nothing wrong with giving it away, or so goes the mentality.

Maybe we should see about organizing a "booze cruise". Just for shi$$ and giggles I added up our drinks from our cruise last year. Eight day cruise and it was $370ish for the both of us. We did not drink all of that some of it was for rounds that we bought. But . . . we also brought on four bottles of wine that was shared with others in our group. So I'm wondering what the bar bill will be for our 12 day cruise. I preordered wine and vodka through Bon Voyage so let's see if that helps. If you have a couple of cocktails before dinner, glass of wine with dinner and cocktails in the casino after dinner it can add up very quickly. None of us are rookies and nobody gets stupid drunk because the drinks are spreadout throughout the day. I do have a question, if 30 people that post on this board were all traveling on the same cruise and all wanted to buy the liquor card would they qualify as a group?

I have been on five Carnival Cruises and have never heard of a program like this. Since our Ski Club is known as a "Drinking Club with a Skiing problem", we might bankrupt Carnival. I asked my TA to call and find out if this program is still in play or not. IT IS! But! There is always a But!

You have to have 100% sign-up. We have several people in our group of 37 that have medical problems and don't drink. My wife being one of them. Designated Driver Baby! Woohoo! So it probably wouldn't be a very good option for our group!

Nuts!

No, unfortunately, it has to be booked as a group in the beginning and go through the same TA.
