Sailing From NYC Questions

A few years back, we sailed the Zenith to Bermuda from NYC. Parking at the terminal was $10.00. I see that it is now $24.00 per day. Sheesh!

We will be driving in from the New Jersey side. Does anyone have any experience or knowledge of the ability to park in NJ somewhere near the Lincoln Tunnel then taxiing over to the NYCPT? How about a hotel on the NJ side that allows you to park your car their for the week? Finally, a hotel or some other shuttle type service that goes from NJ to NCYPST and back again?

There's got to be something better than $168.00 to park a car for the week. Any and all suggestions or ideas are welcome.

This may be way out there but would it be convenient for you to park at Newark Airport which I think would be a lot cheaper and take the bus in to NYC. Then you would still have to get a taxi over to the terminal but all in all it might be cheaper. What ever you do when you get off the ship don't even try to get a taxi right at the terminal. It's bedlam!! Hoist your bags down and across the street. It will be much easier to hail a cab.

Thanks for your suggestions. We're thinking about the Weehawken to Midtown (West 38th Street) ferry option. That looks doable and about half the price, without the hassle of the tunnel. Taxi up the mile or so from West 38th to the pier at West 55th Street. The walk would be simple enough if we didn't have baggage to deal with. We're going to flop in North Bergen area, NJ, the night before and take the ferry over for cocktails, dinner and a show. If it works out smooth and looks viable for the next day, that will be the plan. Thanks again.

jturner,

That should be a smooth plan. There are plenty of taxi's at the NY pier lined up. Since the boat provides free bus service to various parts of the city for those coming into Manhattan, you won't have too big a queue for the taxi's and should have no problem getting one.

Hope this isn't too late for you, but the NY Waterway has a website with information for you (www.nywaterway.com) which indicates a complimentary shuttle from the 38th Street Pier to 50th and 12th (Just a few blocks from the pier). The website also includes a schedule for you. I was contemplating taking the ferry from NJ also and was advised by the customer service rep to consider parking in a visible place and tell the attendants you would be there for the week. Good luck!

Thanks for the new info posted. It looks like the shuttle bus to 50th only runs on weekdays. We sail on a Saturday. They also may not be too thrilled when we try to lug a bunch of baggage on board. We may use the theatre district shuttle on Friday night when we head into town for cocktails, dinner, a play and probably more cocktails. Thanks again for your resources.

Just as a follow up, we parked at Port Imperial in Weehawken and ferried to midtown. Parking was $7.00 for weekend days, $9.00 for weekdays, for a total of $66.00. The ferry is $5.50 per person, per trip. The total was $88.00.

When we got off the ferry in midtown (West 38th and 12th) we rolled our baggage up 12th to 50th when the ship was waiting for us. We don't mind walking and are very physically fit, so the 10 minute walk was a breeze. From the ferry pier to the ship and beyond in both directions is a Harbourwalk pathway. This path is paved and completely improved for walking, running, biking, blading, or rolling luggage. We walked to and from the ship.

When we returned to our car it was there without any problems, although we had a dead battery. Joe the security guard came by with a battery booster and got us off and running. Simple and easy.
