Miami post cruise car rental

We will be returning to the Port of Miami on a Sunday morning and flying out of West Palm Beach that same night. Can I rent a car at the port? If not, where is the nearest place to rent, and what is the most efficient and cheapest way to get to the rental location to pick up the car? The intention is to drop off the car at the West Palm Beach airport that same night, less than 12 hours after picking it up in Miami.

Ride the Alamo shuttle free from the port to their lot near the airport. Drop off at WPB. Very little hassle, shuttles run constantly and Alamo prices seem to be the best.

Take a 5 minute, $7 cab ride to Avis. You'll be in and out of the rental office and on the road before any of the shuttles even reach the airport. ;)
