Strange anti-cruise comment

There are two types of people.. Those that have been on a cruise and those that have not.

"Those that have not" - I can see why these people may not think they would like a cruise but since they have never been on a cruise, well they just do not know. I use to be a "have not".

"Those that have" - I think the only valid excuse for not liking a cruise would be severe sea sickness. If this is not what you suffer from and you still do not like to take a cruise you have a serious problem. You are unable to be happy and you do not appreciate life! I would strongly suggest seeking immediate psychiatric therapy. You worry way to much about other people and I bet people generally do not like to be around you.

But not everybody who is greedy has a weight problem.

And, while it may shock some people, not everyone who has a weight problem is greedy.

There are many, many people who have weight issues that are due to medical issues.

Some people can not overcome their physical issues.

Every person can overcome their prejudicial behavior.

It would never cross my mind to be interested in what's on anyone else's plate besides my own. Second, if some people enjoy two entrees, who cares?

I find myself paying attention to other people's plates... so I know what to order for my second entree! :p

I am overweight, and I don't exercise enough. I'm on Radiance NB to Alaska on 8/24, and here's a warning to anyone on that cruise: I AM GOING TO EAT A LOT!!! Very likely more than one entree, if I can't decide between them. If you are appalled by this, or feel sorry for me because I'm so greedy, you might want to complete your experience by following me to buffets, where you will no doubt be appalled by the amount of food I can eat. Hopefully I will gross you out enough that you will go to your cabin and not come out.

But will you have a cigarette afterwards???? :D Phil, I have 2 answers, and I couldn't decide which way to go, so here's both:

1) I don't smoke, but I'd do it just to horrify those who feel that they have a right to judge me and what I do

2) only if it was good for us both....

:D

I agree, I would look at that 2nd entree too...for the same reason. When we cruised on the Grand Princess in Dec/05, I couldn't make my mind up as to which dessert I would like...it was a toss up between 2....the waiter said...."Don't worry sir...I'll bring you both" ..nobody noticed..nobody cared...and if they did...too bad for them...I enjoyed and they didn't

I love to see people enjoy what they eat. It's no ones business how much other people eat. Just don't waste food. Some people should pay attention to your own problems...you know we all have them. The only situation that I encountered on a cruise concerning food follows: It was the night of the chocolate buffet. A small version of this buffet was being placed out in the casino. Sometimes people do get like animals around a buffet. This small buffet was not yet offically open...there were no serving forks, knives, etc placed out yet. A couple just could not wait and decided to use their hands because they were ready to eat. They grabbed pieces of cake from an uncut cake ...licking their fingers before they went back for more...again and again... eliminating 20% of the buffet. Their plates were overflowing. I think this story falls under extremely bad manners & hygiene but it sure was a turn off. :(

Hear, hear!! I hope the lady that complained is seated next to me on the Sovereign this fall. I love to try new things, but I am loathe to spend extra money out of my meager grocery budget on something like lamb (which I have never tasted). I promise you, I will try anything on the menu that I've never had before and if I don't like it, I'll get something else. Neener, neener. The first time I ever had escargot, duck, asparagus and Asti-Spumante were all on different cruises. Turns out, I like em all. I just can't see me ponying up to the butcher at Publix and asking for snails:D .

Will he carve the snails for you? ;)

I'm another that likes to try as many different kinds of food as possible. I would prefer 1/2 size entrees, then I could order 4 instead of 2. :D

This thread makes me laugh because of a comment my aunt said to me not long ago about cruising. She and her family are world travelers, and they do love to cruise. I've never been on a cruise, so she was explaining to me how wonderful it is. She told me what their "routine" is, and she made me laugh when she said, "After dinner we roll ourselves out of the dining room to the deck where we loosen our pants because we ate like little piggies with our two entres each..." and they are both fit and healthy. I just thought it was cute.

When it comes to lobster I always order double portions. It's my vacation and I did pay for it. The woman who hates cruising for this reason is not being honest with herself, but that is her business. I will continue to enjoy the food on cruises and in the portions I want.

I do not order 2 entrees but occationally 2 or 3 starters and no entree.

I was on a cruise where a husband said he did not want a dessert, his wife quickly interrupted and ordered for him. The whole table laughed and the waiter smiled and offered her 2 desserts, the rest of us then ordered a couple of extra desserts, for us all to try. It was a table for eight and it was a fun group and an excellent meal!

Ok-my SO and I like to eat. So sometimes we will order 2 entres or two deserts or even go to the buffet before our late seating dinner. I can't believe what we chose to do would matter to anyone. We even joke about how much we eat on a cruise.Usually diet before and after a cruise!I just enjoy eatting what I don't have to cook. We live in the boonies and our choice of restaurents are McDonalds or Subway so food on a cruise is a real treat for us and we make the most of it.I just hope we never sit with anyone who is bothered by this but if we do-then I guess they have the option of changing their table.

This exact thing happened to DD and me. We ordered 2 appetizers and our table mates said that was rude. They were never at our table again. The waiter kept trying to tell us it was because they didnt like him. I know better, they were snobs and didn't like us down to earth folks who happened to want 2 appetizers one night! Their loss!

I am very lucky that with my forthcoming cruise. My parents, aunt & uncle, and my cousin and his wife have all decided to cruise as well. Meaning of course that we will have a large table to ourselves so we can order whatever we want without braving the disapproval of other diners.

Honestly, if the woman thinks that the cruising experience is somehow dulled by other people's dining choices, I feel sorry for her. Who spends their vacation watching what other people do instead of enjoying themselves?

Personally, considering the prices the cruise lines charge, I'm going to eat as much as possible just to feel like maybe I got my money's worth. Lobster out the wazoo, any other seafood I normally don't have access to, desserts, you name it, I'm eatin' it. Of course I'm also power-walking each morning so I don't totally bloat. And we'll be doing room-service sandwiches so even our lunches off the ship are being provided by the ship.

Now if the person in question had complained about how obese people were pigging out she'd have more sympathy, but people just ordering two entrees is no biggee....

Wow, they're the rude ones for not coming back! Maybe the cruise lines should seat people together by how much they eat. I want a table with people who love to sample everything on the menu!!! :D

I'm sorry, but I fail to see how the size of the person eating has anything to do with whether or not they should be judged. The point is, its no one's business how much I , or anyone else on the cruise, chooses to eat or not eat. usually, the extra entrees, appetizers and desserts have nothing to do with portions and everything to do with wanting a variety. Even if someone wanted to order 7 entrees because they were hungry...so be it, they paid for it and its their body, not yours.

People expect everyone to dine like them and when they see something out of their normal zone, they have to have their two cents worth. If that's not enough, they make it a reason to not like a cruise. I agree with those who think it's none of your business how much others eat as long as they finish their meal.

I love buffet, and will be ordering multiple entrees if can't decide in the dining room. But i always finish what i eat, it's my vacation, i've certainly earn the right to pamper myself.

Wastage of food is wrong but judging others because they aren't eating according to your standards is just silly. Should the cruise ship only serve what you like and disregard other people's fav food because that food is unacceptable according to your standards?

I am the only chubby one in our family and I eat the healthiest. My son is 6'1" and eats baconator large combos and weighs around 145...my husband can eat two baconator large combos with a large frosty and is 6 feet and weighs 150. He just went from a 30 inch waist to a 32 inch waist and turned 41 in Feb. He will eat a large super sumpreme pan pizza from Pizza Hut and still go make a few peanut butter sandwiches...sigh. I will get a salad or a happy meal or chicken sandwich with a side salad or if it is pizza have a couple of slices and a salad...not fair!!

And my son is already talking about ordering three or four shrimp cocktails, a couple of steaks and all the desserts...

You know, at one time the cruise brochures actually encouraged people to order extra "whatever" if they liked it so much the first time. I don't recall ever ordering two entrees, but I did order three appetizers once; caviar, foie gras, and smoked salmon. I tried to explain to the waiter that he could have the galley put them all on the same plate, but when they arrived: three plates. I guess because they were all cold dishes they were pre-plated. That, or he didn't understand what I was telling him. It was ok, although they made the table a little crowded.
