my Wife, me and 80 of our best friends are heading to Alaska on the Zuiderdam june 30th thru 7/7 and doing the usual ports.

 

will there be a problem with insects? should we take a bottle of "Off!"

There are no snakes in Alaska, though - or alligators or great white sharks :D

You have 80 best friends? :eek: Hopefully you're not in charge of buying all the bug spray! Get something with a high DEET concentration as I hear the mosquitoes can be nasty but probably only when you head inland. Deep Woods Off has a high concentration, but there are other brands that have higher levels and are cheaper. I got some stuff at Dicks Sporting Goods that is 98% DEET but I can't remember the name. It was half the price as Off.

So what i can gather, along the coast at the typical ports, insects should'nt be TOO much of a problem? we dont plan on heading inland.

That's true - the legendary mosquitoes are inland, and are seldom a problem in the ports (though it does happen occasionally so carrying something like Deep Woods Off is a good idea).
