New Orleans transportation question

Just wondered if anyone knows whether it is more cost effective (read *cheaper* here) to take a taxi from the Amtrak station to the Hilton or to arrange for a car to meet us through a local company. The same question for transportation from the Hilton to the pier.

Cabs in NO charge a flat rate to some destinations. I know this will apply for the trip from the Hilton to the cruise terminal: it will be $7 per person.

Trains arrive at Union Passenger Terminal. They will either charge the $7 flat rate or meter rate. The meter rate would be about $10.

If you aren't humping too much luggage, it isn't a long walk from the Hilton to the terminal. The Hilton connects to the Riverwalk mall, and you can walk through the mall, out onto a covered walkway, and down a flight of stairs to the terminal. It is about three blocks.
