longtrip Posted July 20, 2007 #1 Share Posted July 20, 2007 Hi, I booked a solo room on a 49 day cruise. My wife has choosen not to do this cruise. Anyone go solo on a trip this long when your dear spouse did not join in? I am assuming it might get lonely. Any thoughts? The trip is in the winter of 09 on the Carnival Splendor, going from Florida around the tip of South America and up to San Francisco. I booked a room way up on the Panorama deck at a pretty darn reasonable 1a rate. I have a strategy on how to get the lowest rate and best room. Email me if anyone is interested. It is not a big secret, except the rooms don't seem to show up when you go to an agent. Growflroses@yahoo.com Bob
longtrip Posted July 21, 2007 Author #2 Share Posted July 21, 2007 I have been checking out other South American cruises. This one time only cruise by Carnival consists on three legs (17,14, and 18 days): 1. http://www.carnival.com/Itinerary.aspx?embkCode=FLL&itinCode=SA1&groupInd=&shipCode=SL&durDays=17&subRegionCode=SA 2. http://www.carnival.com/Itinerary.aspx?embkCode=BUE&itinCode=SA3&groupInd=&shipCode=SL&durDays=14&subRegionCode=SA 3. http://www.carnival.com/Itinerary.aspx?embkCode=VAP&itinCode=SA3&groupInd=&shipCode=SL&durDays=18&subRegionCode=SA I have been looking at other cruise lines to compare rates. This cruise for solo rooms seems to be a very good price. Plus this is Carvinal's best ship which is currently being built. Bob PS I meant "chosen" in the post above :) . kitty9 Posted July 22, 2007 #3 Share Posted July 22, 2007 My longest cruises have been 35 and 29 days, and I loved every minute of it. I have one coming up next year that will be 31 days total. I didn't know Carnival did cruises of that length. That must be something very new for them.
Solo Cruiser Posted July 22, 2007 #4 Share Posted July 22, 2007 I have taken a 17 day cruise and never seemed to get lonely, but then I'm not married so there was no spouse at home.
Rare Roz Posted July 22, 2007 #5 Share Posted July 22, 2007 Kitty, Carnival's new Splendor is scheduled to do South America, the Baltic, and the Mediterranean. I'm checking into the S. American and Baltic itineraries. I hope they continue to expand their itineraries in terms of destinations and length. The reason it's going around the cape (or is it a horn?) is that it's too dang big to go thru the Canal. Roz
longtrip Posted July 22, 2007 Author #6 Share Posted July 22, 2007 Thanks for the responses. As Roz stated they had to do this long cruise (actually consisting of 3 individual cruises) because the Splendor is too big to go through the canal. And it is not coming back that way for a while. It is supposed to be based in L.A. for at least 2 years after it is relocated. Bob

Were you able to get them to give a discount if you booked all three segments? I must say this is very interesting especially since you won't need the expensive airfare. RCCL will be doing this with the Mariner next year I think and it would be interesting to see what kind of rates they have although I know they won't be as good as Carnival. I am on a 14 day Transatlantic next spring on the Carnival Freedom.
