Aprille Posted September 1, 2007 #2 Share Posted September 1, 2007 Before final payment date you can cancel and get 100% refund.
Pat in NC Posted September 1, 2007 #3 Share Posted September 1, 2007 When we had to cancel a cruise(before the final payment) we were credited the full refund to our credit card.
megr1125 Posted September 1, 2007 #4 Share Posted September 1, 2007 if you booked with Rc, call them if you booked through a TA, then that would be the person to call....
MoreCruisesNow Posted September 1, 2007 #5 Share Posted September 1, 2007 It really is important to keep in mind that final payment dates and penalty dates are not necessarily the same. On a sailing as far out as the OP's, they will be the same, but on close-in sailings, you may be in penalty the moment you make the deposit. I guarantee - if the sailing you're buying is closer than two months away, your final payment date is NOT the beginning of penalties.
songster2 Posted September 1, 2007 #6 Share Posted September 1, 2007 What about checking your calendar and just reschedule for down the road? You could keep your booking number and any perks, if you have any.
joebert Posted September 1, 2007 #7 Share Posted September 1, 2007 We had the same situation a couple a years ago. You get a full refund on the cruise fare but the insurance is non-refunable.
Floflegs Posted September 1, 2007 #8 Share Posted September 1, 2007 You don't get a full refund if you are a UK customer. You lose your deposit no matter how early you cancel.

Any help would be greatly appreciated :( We are also cruising in January and our final payment due date is November 4. Our reservation says that for cancellation after Nov. 4 there is a penalty of $250 per person, after Dec. 14 (30 days prior to sailing) there is a penalty of 50% of the cruise price, and after Jan 5 (1 week prior to sailing) there is a 100% penalty. kaitlinsmom Posted September 2, 2007 #11 Share Posted September 2, 2007 If you have bought cruise insurance, does that make a difference? I am suppose to cruise in 6 weeks and now my husband can't go (work related) - I am debating whether to still go with my DD (9) - Are there penalties? Can I change the date? Lynnees Posted September 2, 2007 #13 Share Posted September 2, 2007 It really is important to keep in mind that final payment dates and penalty dates are not necessarily the same. I guarantee - if the sailing you're buying is closer than two months away, your final payment date is NOT the beginning of penalties. Sorry, but you are mistaken, unless you live in Europe. In Canada and the US penalties do not start until final payment date. However, some TA's do charge a cancellation fee and it's important to find that information out prior to booking. If you are making a new booking and closer than 2 months you must pay the complete price upon booking. At best, they will give you 48 hours to pay the balance if you have a good TA. Chigirlcruzin Posted September 2, 2007 #14 Share Posted September 2, 2007 It's too late for the OP, but always negotiate your vacation when accepting a new job! I got promoted in June, and I immediately asked if my October cruise was going to be OK. Most companies are very reasonable about this. If you aren't eligible for paid vacation (negotiate that too), many companies will let you "borrow ahead" of when you are eligible.
john & Gerrie nj Posted September 2, 2007 #15 Share Posted September 2, 2007 This is one of those questions better answered by a phone call to Royal. 70 days without penalty.
