PSCruiser Posted September 20, 2007 #51 Share Posted September 20, 2007 Jadip - you are so observant! That was a nice little "robbery" caught on the camera! Whitesox - don't confuse me even further by bringing in physics!

joand452 Posted September 20, 2007 #53 Share Posted September 20, 2007 The woman in the top left of the picture wearing a white top and pants is playing a machine that has a bar that moves back and forth and pushes money over the edge. The ship then tilts so money in this gambling device naturally pours over the edge for collection. Subject returns to general area during the confusion and picks up a cup a few feet to the right of this machine and begins gathering the money from two coin feeds before a staff member appears. She immediately stops her activity and walks over to sit by another machine. Video cameras are a beautiful thing!;) Maybe she thought it was her quarter that actually pushed out the winnings? ;) That list would have absolutely terrified me. Believe me, we had thoughts about cancelling our Crown cruise, but we had a wonderful time. Fingers crossed for our next cruise...

Cuizer2 Posted September 20, 2007 #55 Share Posted September 20, 2007 Those of you that remember the tilt of the Crown Princess, someone has posted video from the casino security cameras on You Tube. It shows just how bad the tilt was. Here are the links. Don't know how long they will last as I can't imagine Princess would want these published. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cmpcwWo63sY&mode=related&search= http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rgiumz3RRhI&mode=related&search= http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lPJP6OrcJ9A&mode=related&search= http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xc9EL_O1B7s&mode=related&search= http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jRCxZ_p5sY4&mode=related&search= I didn't see any tilt. The video I was watching stayed level. I do wonder how Princess got those chairs to move all by themselves. I am guessing Princess had a very powerful vacuum cleaner going just off camera. friend of Eeyore Posted September 20, 2007 #57 Share Posted September 20, 2007 OMG! Those poor people, could you imagine if that was your first ever cruise?? Never cruise again I bet! Thanks for posting the links. Heard about it and read about it but to actually see it makes a huge difference. Lynn It was my first ever cruise! I've taken two more since then. (However, there were a lot of new cruisers out of New York - I'm sure it was the first/last for many. (Hi Gail & Carol!!) Watched all the links - different from the previous casino camera view I'd seen. Wish I could see videos from other angles - might make more sense. The one that I know was videoing on top deck never posted his video.
Silvery Seas Cruiser Posted September 20, 2007 #58 Share Posted September 20, 2007 Holy cow! What amazing pictures. Anyway, I notice that all of those videos are listed under the category of COMEDY at You Tube! Are they kidding? They consider that to be comedy? derftegel Posted September 21, 2007 #60 Share Posted September 21, 2007 The list was caused by the quarter ledge machine paying off and all the weight of the winnings overwhelmed any mechanism that stablizes the ship.:D
David4 Posted September 21, 2007 #61 Share Posted September 21, 2007 Just a question, what would or were you be afraid of? I was in the Navy for 6 years, so to me that was not too bad of a list and part of cruiseing. But I guess having your hotel tipping to one side would be unsettling. I mean no disrespect for those that were startled or injured and I am not trying to flame anyone. Just curious.
Nanannjen Posted September 21, 2007 #62 Share Posted September 21, 2007 As someone whose ocean going experience has been limited to large cruise ships, I would have been afraid that the ship was going over turtle and that I was going to die! Other than that, I suppose, no worries!

I mean no disrespect for those that were startled or injured and I am not trying to flame anyone. Just curious. Dave, on a Navy ship, everything, (and I believe that that means EVERYTHING) is secured, bolted down, attached, ready for any movement. On a cruise ship, it's quite the opposite. People think of these huge cruise ships as giant floating hotels. BUT THEY ARE AT SEA. The damage and injuries were caused by flying/moving objects intersecting with flying/moving people. Picture this: TVs falling down from high shelves, giant bar blenders flying off their ledges, grand pianos upended and falling, display cases falling over into plate glass windows, all the china and glass in the buffet crashing to the ground and causing a virtual minefield for anyone whose feet were not protected, and flying glass and china catching people's legs and arms and torsos. Picture people in swimming pools thrown by the force of the tilt and the moving water so that they had the sensation of imminently being swept overboard. Picture people out on the Promenade deck on the side that went DOWN. See? As someone whose ocean going experience has been limited to large cruise ships, I would have been afraid that the ship was going over turtle and that I was going to die! Other than that, I suppose, no worries! That is exactly the sensation. When it is happening, it feels that you are just going....going.....going.......ARE WE EVER GOING TO RIGHT OURSELVES????? It's a feeling like no other that I had previously experienced. As for the casino video, obviously this was just one small section of the casino. I am not sure where, but one passenger was slammed by a moving game table, and ended up quite badly injured. Most of the injured cited by Gail (ozland) were from cuts and bruises from flying material and falling into things or having things thrown against them. Don't even try to imagine what it felt like if you were in an ELEVATOR at that moment! (our friend, Deb, was!) Hi, Cathy!
Cuizer2 Posted September 21, 2007 #64 Share Posted September 21, 2007 Don't even try to imagine what it felt like if you were in an ELEVATOR at that moment! (our friend, Deb, was!) Well, I guess if the ship leaned over far enough, being in an elevator would feel more like being on an escalator. And depending on which way the escalator was facing, being on an escalator would either feel more like being in an elevator or being on a moving sidewalk.
friend of Eeyore Posted September 21, 2007 #65 Share Posted September 21, 2007 Picture people in swimming pools thrown by the force of the tilt and the moving water so that they had the sensation of imminently being swept overboard. I was one of those in the pool. I was swept to the side of the pool, and only saved myself and a kid from going down out of the pool to a tangle of chairs and people by grabbing onto the ladder. At that moment, all we could think of was "are we going all the way over?" Picture that thought, picture knowing your DH was on the back balcony, picture screaming people, some in great pain. Once the ship righted, things grew calmer, but it was not a fun couple of moments. I, too, spent time in the medical center helping (don't know if it was on this thread or the other that hillslife talked about her hours there). When crew members start turning to passengers and asking what to do; then you know you are in serious trouble. As for some who hinted that the Captain was at fault and got a long furlough after this incident (again, don't know if it was on this thread or the other), you're way off. The Captain was scheduled to go on vacation immediately after this incident. Instead, the company kept him on the ship for a while after, to keep things going. Then, he got a well deserved vacation, before continuing his rotation. He was no-where near the bridge when the junior officer turned off the auto-pilot and turned the ship wrong. In fact, he ran up several flights of stairs during the list in order to right the ship. Hope all here who were there are doing well. -Cathy

I just didn't find anything amusing about it like some people did and especially that one about the crew member caring more about the quarters then the lady. I am sorry for being a fuddy dud. David4 Posted September 22, 2007 #70 Share Posted September 22, 2007 Merion Mom I see your point and not all is tied down on the Navy ships. I cleaned up a few messes, and me and another guy were ran over by a weapons cart that was not secured. Now that left a mark.:D I thank you for letting me know. mckinna Posted September 22, 2007 #71 Share Posted September 22, 2007 Good video. We were on the Rhapsody of the Seas in April of 2006 when, during dinner, the ship listed to one side, and then the other side. Condiments went flying, baskets of dinner rolls took off and things were crashing and breaking. It was extremely scary. A couple of minutes later dinner continued on without a hitch. We were so nervous for the kitchen staff, what with hot sauces, flames, etc., but it didn't appear to have caused any problems. The Captain made an announcement of what appeared to have happened, computer controlling the stabilizers malfunctioned, told us everything was under control. Which was very reassuring. The gift shops were closed for the rest of the night and part of the next day for clean up. I guess the liquor store was the worst, with broken alcohol bottles all over. We were on this same cruise! What I remember most was the head waiter frantically grabbing for the lit cherries jubilee station. I can laugh about it now, but we all had the feeling of "is it ever going to stop!" It rolled twice, and if I remember right, the captain said it was 10 degrees, and something about the stabilizers. I don't think anyone got hurt.:)

MrPete Posted September 23, 2007 #73 Share Posted September 23, 2007 Those of you that remember the tilt of the Crown Princess, someone has posted video from the casino security cameras on You Tube. It shows just how bad the tilt was. WOW! Those were wild! This only happened to me once in the Pacific, but it was 6 AM and we were in our cabin, so we were laying down. A very odd sensation. Lots of stuff was trashed. Seeing it like this in these videos makes it even scarier!
Rare BecciBoo Posted September 23, 2007 #74 Share Posted September 23, 2007 Ten degrees is not a bad heel on small boats, we sail at 19 degrees heel many times normally racing and all sail boats are meant to heel, but on a ship this size with nothing tied down...disaster!! But did you catch the lady in the first video going around trying to get all the money that had spilled from the machines while this was going on???? LOLOL She evidently was not scared enough to curtail her greed was she??
