Video of Crown tilt

I would suspect that at that very moment everyone was in a sheer panic!

I know I made this point when the actual tilt happened and it was so widely discussed on this board, but those moments when everyone is in a sheer panic are EXACTLY the moments for which the crew trains. Anytime emergency response procedures are required, most people will be panicked, and the emergency responders are trained to keep their act together.

Those videos are MUCH scarier than anything I imagined when the tilt happened. They are very lucky that no one on a high, open deck fell overboard! And several people were injured, two of them (if I recall) quite seriously, including a girl who had a severed artery in her leg.

Poor girl!

And it sounds like the crew was really great.

Or the people that went back to their slot machines and tried to start playing again!

We were in Las Vegas on 9/11. Most peole couldn't take their eyes off the TVs. There were some exceptions; a few senior citizen women couldn't take their eyes off the slot machins. This is beyond tragic. The intermittent reward system of the slot machines can cause a true addiction in some people.

We were on the ship during this 'list' and it was as scarey as the videos appear and hundreds of people were injured - I am a nurse and worked in the medical center for hours assisting the crew medical staff with injuries - big and small..... we just completed our first cruise post 'list' on the TP and I have to admit when the ship rolled a little due to some rough seas the list came to mind several times for my daughter and I.....but we love cruising and will continue on...

Thanks for sharing these - this may dispel some of the 'oh it was no big deal' by people not on the ship when they see these videos...and yes, it was a year ago July 2006...

The guy flying over the blackjack table pretty much said it all. Reminds me of my time on a Navy destroyer when we were in a Typhoon and took a 55 degree roll.

55 degrees is easy: first you scream like a school girl, pee your pants, then you die just a little bit.

Dang. I couldn't imagine being on the Crown much less a 55 degree list. My nephew sent us video of a refueling operation on his destroyer in 22 foot seas.

And I thought the 13-15 foot seas on the Splendour of the Seas was a good time. Actually it wasn't too bad after we got our sea legs. It was kind of funny to watch people stagger in unison.:D

You had to go and do this? I've been trying to convince my DH to do more cruising, to more distant locations, for longer periods of time and he keeps insisting that "cruising isn't as safe as you think it is!"

Just imagining and reading what happened on the Crown was enough...now we have to have a video visual??????????

Note to Self: Keep DH busy and away from the computer!!!!!!!!

That poor woman who hit what appears to be her cheek on the roulette table. I got hit with a softball on my cheek once on the pitcher's mound and that hurts like heck. It was also wild to see the video of the roulette dealer unable to get out of the way of the chair coming at her. It's hard to move left or right when you don't have your balance. A little bit to the right and she would have been clear. Thanks for posting these, Gordon.

Yikes, brings back scary memories. I was on the ship when it tilted.

When we came back from our adventure and posted on the boards, there were a few (you know who you are) who shot back saying we were being overly dramatic about what happened and to basically get over it, ships lean, and move on. Our experiences were completely discounted on these boards.

I hope these videos prove to those people that yes, the ship tilted so hard and so fast that people lost their balance and actually did go airborne - whether they were in the pool, on the pool deck, atrium, casino or gym. I spoke to many who claimed there was a second that they were completely airborne. I was able to hang on to the railing on the top deck but did watch people laying out completely tumble across the deck.

So, no, us "high rollers" on the 7/11/06 sailing were not exaggerating by any means.

If any of you are out there, hope you're doing well and are back to cruising!:)

Absolutely amazing video:eek:

To the original OP's that were on the ship-sorry if some on the boards discounted your experience-we can all see how scary it must have been for you all! I have been on a few cruises that have listed or been stuck on sand bars and refloated and that alone can be spooky, but never anything like you went thru!

How common is it for cruise ships to list?

jad7984 - I think it was pretty horrific to hear about, and even the videos can't do justice to what those onboard must have been feeling and thinking. I remember reading these boards last year and I was very concerned for everyone's safety and well being. Sad to hear folks accused passengers of being overdramatic. For many who crusie frequently, they can't possibly imagine something that wild happening to the ships - I couldn't.

Lady Jag - in all seriousness though it makes me laugh, my Grandmother had a mini-stroke and continued to play at the slots - nothing was stopping her. She wasn't too big a spender at the casino - along with her little sister (they were in their late 70s) playing the nickel slots and getting comped buffets. What a hoot!

Hi Jad!

We've have done two cruises since and are booked on a NZ/OZ cruise in December. (I was glad to see our non-exaggerated accounts somewhat validated by the casino videos.) :)

I hope all is going well for you, too!
