Booze in your room?

You can no longer carry liquour or beer on to the ship with you. Only wine and champagne. Only way to get it into your room is if you pack if in your checked luggage - not your carry-on. This is a new rule that came out recently.

All carry-on luggage is scanned and if they find beer or liqour they will take it away from you and give it back when you leave the ship. Sorry!

I don't think I would cruise Disney just to be able take booze to my room.

There are no casinos on Disney and lots and lots of kiddies running around.

We were parked next to a Disney ship in Nassau when we were on Zuiderdam and it did not look they ever slept over there.

It is not all that more costly to order a bottle from Room Service and you won't need to be sneaking around and risking having your clothes smell like a distillery if your smuggled bottle in your checked suitcase should break.

You can pre-order from Ship's Services and it will be in your cabin when you arrive or call and order from Room Service.

Jeepers....you've spent "x" dollars on your cruise and, if you needed to fly you paid "x" dollars for your airfare......buy a bottle from HAL and you will be all set.

JMHO, of course.

Sorry....Meant to add that if you wish, you may pre-order liquor from Ship's Services prior to your cruise and they will have it waiting in your cabin when you arrive.

Depending on where you come from, this may not be a bargain - coming from Canada, it's a very fair deal, even with the exchange rate. You can, I've found out, bring your own mix on board - legally! :)

We've never brought any beverages of any form whatsoever aboard any ship so it is not an issue for us. I am sorry that some abused the privlege HAL extended so badly that now folks who only used to bring a single bottle with them are no longer allowed to do that. It only takes a small few to ruin it for everyone else. Didn't we learn that in grade school? Some folks lugged an entire bar aboard and we watched them do it.

We enjoy the 'social factor' of having our cocktails in the lounges rather than in our cabin. For us, it is very relaxing and fun to visit the Ocean Bar before dinner and Crows/Ocean/Northern Lights/Explorers.......wherever for after dinner.

On our last cruise in April we ordered a liter of Canadian Club from Ships Services ahead of time. It cost $25 and was waiting in the cabin upon our arrival. I have been told that one can order from Ships Services while on the ship. That is not cheap but is it less than ordering by the drink, and it is convenient if one wants a drink while still dressing and primping! (Note the "r").

There are some brands of liquor that come in plastic bottles that are more packable than glass, and wrapped in some small bubble wrap, should be almost indestructible in checked luggage.

But, for our next cruise we'll probably order from Ships Services again. It's easy and hassle free. Who needs the worriment of wondering if your stuff will break or be confiscated?

Thanks for all the input on this. Even the not so nice ones.................They don't have the beer on board that we like, so we like to take our own brand in a suitcase. It's our "goody" suitcase. After the beer is gone, we use the suitcase to bring home all of our treasures that we've bought on the cruise...........

This is the only reason I was asking about alcohol. It is our vacation and we want to enjoy it. I wouldn't mind at all buying beer on ship if they carried our kind.......

Again, thanks to all, and I do mean everyone for their opinions and input.

I pray anyone going on a cruise this coming week will be safe and most importantly that Florida will survive this latest hurricane. My thoughts and prayers are with everyone living there.............

So how much is a beer or mixed drink on board ship?

I know, I know, if you have to ask...........

My DH asked me and I didn't know....He wants to figure his budget for our 10/2 cruise. I give him an allowance and he wants to know how many drinks he'll get with it. :D I get to match it with my donations to the casino, so this is important. LOL

Domestic brands of beer are around $3.75. imports, $4-$4.75. Mixed drinks, anywhere from the daily special at $3.75 up to straight shots at $4.50 and frozen drinks around $6. Wine starts at $4.50 a glass and goes up from there. There usually is happy hours in most of the bars, check the daily program for which and when. Bloody Marys are usually sold on the lido deck between 11am and noon for $3.95. Hope this helps.....jean

On RCI you can buy it in the ship tax-free stores and pay fee to take it to your room.

Usually fee is about $9 per bottle (which makes price equal to the land price) but on the first day they have specials where you only have to pay $9 for 2 bottles once, I read once that on Voyager class they had special only $9 for 4 bottles...

Well I still like my HAL experience better. ;)

You can order a bottle from Room Service be delivered. The price is absolutely no bargain but at least you can enjoy your cocktails in your cabin if you choose.

Unless I missed something, there was no alcohol of any type on the room service menu when we sailed last month. Has anyone seen differently?

The liquor prices aren`t on the regular room service menu. You can call HAL and they will email you the list or you can just call room service and they will deliver a bottle of your choice. I have the complete list if you want to know a price.....jean
