Upsell fairy emailed

Got an email this morning, offering an upgrade from an AF mini-suite to a A3 courtyard villa on the PoH.

Cost to upgrade was US$960 - for the 3 of us. Apparently the 3rd person doesnt pay any extra for the upgrade?

I was a bit reluctant at first, as the AF mini suite I had booked was an AFT cabin on the very back of the boat. After discussing with the others in my group, we accepted the offer.

What would you have done??!

Was that 960 total or each? Also, what was your sail date (if I'm not being too nosy) If that was total, you got a steal!:D

It was $960 total.

Sail date is Oct 15th.

Would you still have changed considered the AF mini suite I had was an AFT ?

YES! Aft does not trump a CV. We got an upsell from an aft AE on POH 11/5/07 for $1012 total. You got a better deal, but your sail date is 3 weeks earlier. They can sell your AF easier than that CV with only two weeks before sailing, so you got a STEAL! Good for you!:D

Yes. In fact, we did. We had a prime aft mini suite on PoH last December at a great price (senior discount, etc.). We were first offered an AE for $600 more (total, not per person), but decided that AF to AE wasn't that important to us. They also offered an A3/A4 for $1500 (total). We decided that's practically another cruise and said "no, but thanks for offering." Then, 2 weeks before our cruise, we got a call offering the A4 for $600 TOTAL. We had already decide our "limits" and said, "Yes. Do it, do it right now!"

So, our upsell was approximately the equivalent of yours (on a per person basis). At the time, I discovered that the average AF to A3/A4 upsell being offered and paid was $600 to $700 per person! We got an absolute steal--and so did you. And especially because you now have two bedrooms, etc. plus all the fantastic amenities and perks and "VIP"ness of being in a Courtyard Villa.

Enjoy every single second...You'll be spoiled, for sure.:D

CV trumps aft AF any day of the week! You will not believe the incredible level of service you likely will experience (I say likely because we were on NCL Pearl, not PoH). It takes cruising to a whole other level.........beats the S suite on HAL by a long shot also.

Only problem is that for our next cruise, we'll book CV outright (we had upgraded from an AB) and that will cost us $$$ but.......I don't see how we can ever go back:) .

Make sure you tell us all about it - you got a great, great deal! And you'll love the two bedrooms/two bathrooms.

Thanks for all the replies. Sounds like we definitely made the right decision.

Will post a detailed review when we get back!

I now need to learn all the perks and bonuses we will have access to, before we leave for our trip in a few days.

I think I read somewhere about courtyard villa passengers have access to Cagney's for breakfast and lunch?

And do I now not need to worry about making dinner reservations first thing every morning? Is it true that concierge can book the entire week for me upfront?

What else should I be aware of?

Thanks again

Take a look here under Courtyard Villa and also Courtyard Area. Lots of info that may help you. http://nclsuitesandvillas.com/suites.html

Yes, take advantage of Cagney's for breakfast and lunch! Also you can have breakfast right in the courtyard if you want (or any other meal)!

The concierge will take care of any dinner reservations you want to make. Just ask!

Have a wonderful cruise and enjoy being a VIP!

On our Southern Caribbean Pearl - our experience was as follows:

Ask your butler to serve you dinner in the courtyard under the stars! DH and I did that one evening and it was one of the highlights of our cruise - since we were the only people out there, the courtyard steward (not our butler) asked us if we wanted the glass roof rolled open all the way, asked what type of music we liked and then proceeded to play soft music - the lights were dim (for the evening) and let me tell you - the experience rocked!

Have breakfast and/or lunch from Cagney's also served in the courtyard - the menus will be available every morning and afternoon. Your lunch is made to order (same as it would be if you were in the restaurant itself) - the only difference is there's no need to change out of your swimsuit, the meal is served in the courtyard.

CY on the Pearl has its own hot tub, steam rooms, treadmill and small lap pool - we literally only left the CY area to go ashore, see a show and dinner. We spent less time in the casino than on any other cruise - preferring to return to our cabin or the CY area just to hang-out.

We never had a problem getting reservations at any restaurant for any time - our concierge (Alex - who we nicknamed "Magic Man") checked with us 2-3x per day, handled anything/everything to do with dinner reservations, arranged a private galley tour for DH and & I (a fellow CY pax went in DH's place when he decided to just nap) which was conducted by the F&B Director and one of the Executive Chefs (lasted about 1 hour). I could go on and on - it was a truly extraordinary experience and DH and I are talking about doing the same cruise again in April '08 - same itin - only this time not even bothering to go ashore, just hang out in the CY the entire 9 days.

Gee - I guess you can tell I'm excited for you!:D

Again, these were our experiences on the Pearl - maybe others can share their experiences on PoH.
