On your SECOND cruise, was it with the same line?

First cruise was Carnival - Mexico stops - not very good at all. Second - Crystal cruise to the Mediterranean - BEYOND perfect. Third - Princess to Panama Canal, didn't like the ship/service. Fourth - Celebrity to Alaska - excellent, would definitely go with them again.:D

Started with HAL on an Alaska cruise with my sister and her family. She was a Mariner so we also got the Mariner pricing.

Second cruise (Panama Canal) was also HAL since WE were now Mariners.

Cruised RCCL on a couple 3 and 4 day cruises.

Sailed on HAL to the Mexican Riviera.

Am trying Princess next month and have another HAL cruise booked next year.

Although some (maybe a lot) of people think it’s for old folks, I started cruising with HAL when I was in my late 30s and I love HAL! I prefer sunrises over late-night parties but on our cruise to the Mexican Riviera, my daughter partied and danced all night with her aunts. Good thing she had a separate room!

My girlfriend loves Princess and I think I will too (judging by these boards) but I know HAL will alway have a special place in my heart (they have the most beautiful looking ships!). I AM willing to try others lines, especially Celebrity.

Our first cruise was on Premier which used to be affiliated with disney and it got our feet wet when our baby was two. Six months later we sailed on the Song of Norway, now retired by RCL. We continued to cruise and have sailed around 24+cruises. We have 15 on RCL, however we have done 4 on NCL; 1 Costa; 1 HAL; 2 more Premier; 1 Dolphin; 1 Princess; 3 Celebrity.

Our friends always asked aren't they all the same. The answer for us was no. Each line had it;s own thing. NCL known for its Broadway shows etc. We have sailed cheaper lines and better lines. We have never had a bad cruise. I always researched and read so that I knew what I was getting in. ie; Dolphin (now retired) vs RCL. You have to know you are staying at the Days Inn, vs the Hilton.

We have stayed with RCL just because of our past passenger perks given the level we are at now.

We did not stay on the same line for our second cruise.

Our first cruise was on the Carnival Inspiration and went to Cozumel, Mexico.

Our second cruise was our honeymoon cruise on Royal Caribbean's Adventure of the Seas. We went to St. Thomas, St. Maarten, Antigua, Barbados, and St. Lucia.

Why we switched:

We didn't care for the service on the Carnival cruise, and we have been excedingly pleased with Royal Caribbean on each and every cruise between my husband and I. I'm not saying we won't go Carnival again, it will just be a while.

Hi all,

We were just wondering if you stayed with the same line or tried a different one on your second cruise?

Can you pls share which line & where you went on those cruises?

Thanks!

Our first cruise was with HAL to the Mexican Riviera. We loved it so much, we stayed with HAL. But~~HAL doesn't offer golf cruises for DH, and we got super deals with Carnival, which does have them.

So, when he wants a golf cruise, we go with CCL, otherwise, we have stayed with HAL. I am curious to try another line, though.

Great question by the OP. 5 cruises, all with RCI. Don't know why, accept perhaps a comfort level. :). RCI does have great ships and we have never been disappointed with the service. Our next cruise will be on a different line...moving on up, looking at Regent.

Interesting replies. All very valid.

Our first cruise was Carnival Pride. Me, DH and DD (18). My UPS guy talked me into trying out crusing. I was raised on an island, and grew up sailing, etc. so it didn't sound like a treat to me. We had the time of our lives. They doubted that cruising would be for them, but they were hooked.

We are lazy cruisers. I detest flying, and have to fly from west coast to east, at least once a year, due to family obligations. Hence, the Mex Riv is going to see a lot of me (OK, that didn't sound right. I'm over 50, and will be wearing a large, skirted one piece bathing suit).

Our second cruise (20th wedding anniversary, no kid) was on Golden Princess, 10 days out of SF to the Mex Riv. Loved Princess, loved sailing under the GG Bridge, fresh water pools, muster in a show room, dining when you want. Nice but wasn't overwhelmed by food, service or shows.

Our next 2 cruises are back to (yes, I know, yawn) Mex Riv on Carnival. Why Carnival? On our cruise in March, for our 21st anniversary, we can afford a Cat 11 wrap, for a lot less than we paid for a mini suite on Princess.

The year after that, it is Carnival Splendor for DD's 21st BDay, in a Cat 11.

So, God(ess) willing, after that, we will be more apt, as a couple, not to have to seek out "action after midnight" on a ship. I'm not saying that HAL or Celebrity is a bore after midnight, just that we know the "fun ships" will be just that while we cruise with our adult kid.

On the 10 I have been on I love RCCL. Carnaval had to much pot smell(They Finally got kicked off)and the dinning room small, with tables pushed to close together and yes at about 2:30 to 3:00 down the hallways loud drunk people.

Celebrity did not have much going on on the ship. I did like the spa pool, used it everday.

Nope we are adventurers. our first cruise, Carnival, our second RCI, out third Carnival again, HAL, fourth, RCI again 5th, Princess 6th, back with Carnival 7th and 8th, 9th Disney, 10th back with RCI, 11th Celbrity, 12th princess and 13th Celebrity again.

Our next cruise is booked Thanksgiving 08, another Carnival.

Some lines I like better then others, but as long as the ones I like the best are the ones that cost more, and the ones I don't like as well are the ones cost less, I don't gripe. I expect to get what I pay for-I only get upset when I pay alot and get a louzy experience, which HAS happened-but still any cruise is better then any land vacation as far as I am concerned.

our first was on carnival- glory and next year we are going on royal caribean- mariner of the seas... carnival was great, we just got a really good deal to book thru royal

You must be going fairly soon unelss you are doing the West coast. Please let me know what you think of the two ships.

I did not care for MOS, too crowded and I am afraid the Glory will be as bad or worse-but we got a great deal on it and the cruise is Thanksgiving week-a week that normally costs more.

We are going with friends who picked the ship and our daughter really wanterd to go and us go with her. We are doing the same ports we did on MOS-and I really would perfer to go to some differant ports-but oh well-I will remember this cruise is not costing us much and make the best fo it.

I think that was one thing about MOS, we paid a good bit for it, and everything was terribly crowded or closed,so all the things we paid extra for to get to do on that ship, was for nothing. I guess that is what griped me the most. The rock climbing wall and inline skating, was closed every sea day and yet, the pool areas was just not big enough for 3600 PAX, considering the alternative recreation areas were closed-so everyone flocked there.

When I was single, my first cruise was on RCI, followed up by 1 Celebrity, 1 NCL and one Radisson (now Regent). My husband and I took our first cruise together on HAL Rotterdam (loved it) and followed that up by 1 on Crystal and 3 on the Noordam - 2 Caribbean out of NYC and 1 to the Mediterrean. We love the Noordam and our proximity to NYC and being able to drive to the port was very appealing. Now that HAL is leaving NY we have a New Year's Cruise on Regent and are back to the Med, trying Oceania for the first time. Also, just this August for a really totally different experience, we chartered a sail boat out of St. Thomas with just the Captain and first mate (actually, also a Captain herself who was an excellent cook). On this trip we went to places that the larger ships can't get into. It was very special with memories that will last a lifetime. Now, we are open to trying different things and cruise based on the itinerary (to see places on our ever growing short list of places to see).

My first cruise was on Carnival in 1988 with my ex-boyfriend and another friend. Three in an inside cabin with a pull-down upper berth. We had a great time on the cruise, but we broke up later that year, and I met my current partner six months later. We took a cruise for our one-year anniversary on Norwegian Cruise Line.

A couple of years later, we decided it was time to take another cruise. We went on Royal Caribbean. I knew then that we'd probably never sail on Carnival or Norwegian again. We sailed three times total on Royal Caribbean before sailing on Celebrity in 2000.

We were on a Princess ship for the first time in 2001 and had a great time. We sailed again on Princess in 2002 and twice in 2003 (summer to Alaska and December back to the Caribbean). But four Princess cruises in a row made me want to try something else, and we ended back on Celebrity for Christmas in 2004.

In 2005, we tried Holland America for the first time and loved it equally as well as we do Celebrity and Princess. Last year we ended up back on a Princess ship and we're booked for Princess again this year--although I was hoping the prices on a HAL cruise would drop enough for us to sail with them again. They didn't.

In booking our next cruise, I'll be looking at Celebrity, HAL, and Princess. And maybe a Royal Caribbean cruise on a Radiance-class ship will catch my eye. I don't think we want to sail on the larger Royal Caribbean ships.

We're firm believers in trying different lines. We've ended up on RCI more than any of the others, more so because of where we live than anything else. We've always been pleased with the service and value for money spent with RCI.

We've been on : Disney (first cruise, loved it) American Hawaiian, Independence (loved it, sad it is now defunct) Carnival (once was enough for us) NCL, Star to Hawaii and a repo, probably will not sail NCL again, unless we do a Hawaii cruise with them, Celebrity Infinity great cruise, lovely ship, QM2, beautiful ship but service just average, we were not at the suite level.

We have 3 more RCI cruises planned for the next year, 2 short ones and a Italy/Croatia on Legend next October (can't wait). But, we plan in the future to cruise other lines and to other areas of the world.

Funny thing is that out of (I think) 13 cruises, I've never been to the Caribbean  . Alaska, Hawaii X 2, Mexico, Bahamas (I suppose that's close!), Pacific Coast. Reading on CC so much, Caribbean just sounds so crowded

Our first was Royal Caribb, I think because it was cheapest? I'd always wanted to go on a cruise for our 10th and so we did.

Second was Princess to Alaska.

Third will be Royal to W. Carib out of Galveston. Haven't booked yet, waiting to be sure Costa Maya is available again.

I choose by itinerary first, then price.

Hi all,

We were just wondering if you stayed with the same line or tried a different one on your second cruise?

Can you pls share which line & where you went on those cruises?

Thanks!

Yes, as well as our second thru 8th cruise and our 9th coming up in a few weeks. All on Carnival, which we love. We have sailed the Western Caribbean and Eastern Caribbean. Great service, great food, great price. We love their ships. And, no, we're not in our 20's - we're retired! :D Travelgirl

Carnival had too much pot smell but the people were kicked off-then why are you complaining at least Carnival corrected the situation.

I wish RCI Sovereign of the Seas had did the same thing with the obnoxious drunk in the dinningroom two tables away from us who was sceaming abuses at his wife/SO and the waiters. He stayed the whole two hour meal and was NOT escorted out-the same went for the group of drunk late teens/twenty somethings (college students) who were throwing one another FULLY clothed into the swimming pool on the lido for 45 minutes that same cruise-NOTHING was said to them-even though those who wanted to actually swim could not, as they had taken over the pool.

Then there was the drunk on Mariner of the Seas in the piano bar who kept yelling out requests and then got upset with the piano player for ignoring him. The piano player politely informed him that he took paying requests first-(the drunk was mad that the piano player had taken a request ahead of him of a person who had put a tip in the jar) after the player informed this to the drunk the drunk made a big deal of showing everyone in the lounge that he was putting a $10 in the jar-you would have though it was a $100 bill the way he carried on. But nothing ws said to the drunk for his behavior-that is when we left, I was afraid of what the drunk would do next.

So in case you don't get my gist, my POINT is-you cannot control who else books your cruise-(pot smokders could book RCI also) but what is done about such people when they infringe on the rights of others by the cruiseline CAN be controled.

i prefer a line that does not accept such behavior.

Bahamas is part of the caribbean KS, just the worst part-no I take that back-JAMACIA is the worst part-next Cozumel and Nassau ties for the second worse caribbean spot-I would go to St. Thomas, Grand Cayman, Belise, and Key west again in a heart beat. I also enjoyed Barbadoes, Martinque, and Dominica which is actually the southern caribbean.

Maybe you haven't cruised the caribbean much is because you live in California. I have yet to do the Mexican Riveria, but I plan to though, it is just that would be much more expensive for us in airline tickets then the cost of going to the caribbean, so we can go to the caribbean more often.

I will say this, Magean's Bay in St. Thomas was one of the most beautiful beaches I have ever seen but Bermuda's beaches ( I went to two of them) were even more beautiful. I haven't been to Hawaii, I really have no desire to, but my hubby wants to go there and I will go with him next since he took me where I wanted to go this year-but I have heard Hawaii has very beautiful beaches, I just feel I guess, that St. Thomas and Bermuda are so much closer for us-that I do not see the need. I really would prefer another trip to Europe when we next spend the kind of money that Hawaii will take-but like I said, hubby should get his choice sometime also.

The funny thing is he loved France so much and we only got a little taste from the crusieship, he says he wants us to go back there for a land tour and he is talking about in 09 doing that! I say okay, I won't complain-I would love to go back-and if he changes his mind and decides we should go to Hawaii I will be happy with that also!

BTW-I got some deals for Oceania in an e-mail today-great deal, great prices, between Italy and Spain, airfare was included, and the price was actually BETTER then RCI. You should check that out. these prices were for next fall. Now if I could just talk my hubby into our doing that Oceania cruise! but, nah, I don't think we can swing it next year but maybe in 09!

First cruise was Celebrity Galaxy, had a great time. But when it came time to book our next one we found an itinerary and pricing we liked on HAL. Have since been on HAL 5 more times. Would do Celebrity again or would consider Princess, but really see no reason to change from HAL as it is a perfect fit for us (58 and nearly 60).

We were on Disney Wonder for 4 days a couple weeks ago for a wedding cruise and there was nothing there to bring us back. We spent all 4 days missing the HAL experience.

Looking now at March and April itineraries on hAL.

We have only cruised with RCI. Our 1st cruise was our honeymoon and when we were in a port the carnival ship was so close and we were all standing on the deck talking to each other. The carnival cruises wanted to know what our food was like, rooms, etc. It was decided right then and there we would stick with RCI.

I would like to cruise Celebrity but aren't they are more upscale RCI owned by the same company right?

We went on our first cruise for our 25th anniversary with RCI because friends recommended it. We only did a 4 night to see how we liked it. We loved it and took another with RCI this January with the kids (18 and 25) for 7 nights, loved it, too. We're booked on Carnival Triumph in March for another 7 night with friends.
