Excursions that sell out prior to sailing

We will be on the Caribbean Princess Eastern and I was wondering if anyone could tell me what excursions usually sell out prior to the ship sailing? Some members of our party are afraid their excursions will sell out ahead of time. Has anyone had this happen to them?

I've seen it happen many times.. However, don't be too upset if they are, as you will be able to book the exact same tour with a private vendor located somewhere around the end of the pier area.. Some people don't like using them, but we have used them almost everytime with out a hitch, and we also have gotten a better excursion for half the price.. Happy sailing.. Bombero

Yes. This happens quite often. If you're worried about an excursion being sold out you should book ahead of time. However, like bombero said, if your excursion is sold out you can always look for an independant tour operator, which can be arranged ahead of time or on the day you get to the island.

What we normally do is to look at the excursions the cruise line is offering. Then we book those that are MUST DO's like Catamarans. Anything that is not a must do we wait until we get to that port to see if we can find something similar on our own. Catamarans are not easy to book privately, and even if you find one, the price is usually about the same as the cruise line is offering.

Occasionally the cruise line will be able to add another booking time for an excursion that sells out. When we were on the Star Princess last summer, our snorkeling excursion sold out weeks before the cruise. The excursions desk had posted a sign with a second trip available early in the week. It also sold out.

 

You may also be able to get an excursion where someone changes their plans. I booked an excursion for our cruise last December on the Grand online and then cancelled a few weeks later after reading a review of it. People have up to the day before to change their minds.

Janine... you can reserve as many tours as you want through the cruiseline. Unlike other cruiselines, you're just reserving them. You aren't charged until after you board the ship and even then, you have until 9AM the morning before the tour to cancel and get your money back.

 

So, if the folks in your group are concerned, just have them reserve the tours they want. They can always change after boarding and it doesn't cost anything. The tours are put onto your cruise card which isn't charged to your bank until the night before disembarkation.
