WELSH WIZARDS Posted November 12, 2007 #1 Share Posted November 12, 2007 All I want is a beach, a bed, or a chair, an umbrella and a toilet, not to far from the port. . I would like to not have my feet hurt when I walk into the water, would like to NOT to have to wear horrid plastic shoes. I will pay for a cab, pay for a pass, pay for anything else when necessary. So, fellow CC ers , where do I go ? Is there such a place in Curacao ?
carib_traveler Posted November 12, 2007 #2 Share Posted November 12, 2007 Would 18 different ones be enough: http://www.curacao.com/ActivitiesEvents/Beaches.aspx ? The one I'd recommend in view of your 'must-haves' is not on the list though. The one at the Marriott Hotel has the least coral rubble of all beaches so you won't need those plastic shoes. Thank you for your reply. Can you give me any more information.? How to get there ? How far is it from the port ? Does it belong to Marriott, and do you have to pay. ? It sounds like the best option for us if it has the least coral. To thank you for your help, take some chocolates....:)
gizmo Posted November 15, 2007 #4 Share Posted November 15, 2007 I went to Kontiki beach and found the sand was ok. I had read on these boards that water shoes might be needed but I found that was not the case. The sand is not real soft like some beaches I have been to but it was fine to walk on. Entrance into the water was ok also. The water shoes were not needed.
Lsimon Posted November 15, 2007 #5 Share Posted November 15, 2007 We weren't going to go to the beach, then found downtown less interested than it looked from a distance. We took a cab to Kontiki for lunch but didn't swim as we didn't have our suits on - but we'll probably go there next time. Click below for a link to a couple pictures that show the beach, and a couple pictures before shows the nice seating area at the restaurant there - great food for lunch too. eetonaee Posted November 15, 2007 #6 Share Posted November 15, 2007 Here's a picture of the AOS from Holiday Beach just a 15 minute walk from the ship. It has nice sand, chairs, washrooms and food available through the restaurant operated by the hotel/casino. We were there on October 31. It is small but not busy http://
carib_traveler Posted November 15, 2007 #7 Share Posted November 15, 2007 Thanks for the chocolates! Are they home-grown or from Belgium (love Belgian chocolate!). Anyway, to answer your question: the Marriott is about 10 minutes by cab from the port (the closest is Holiday Beach like Etonaee said). I think you need to pay for a towel (probably 10 Florin, 6 USD) which is your ticket to the beach. You can get these from the towel hut at the pool. I was there for the diving (http://www.caribseasports.com) so I got a towel from the dive op ;). If you're there during sunset, around 6.30 PM, you should go to in front of the carib sea sports for the view. It's BEAUTIFUL, the sunset that is. Amagamma Posted January 11, 2008 #9 Share Posted January 11, 2008 Hey Welsh Wizards, just checking out the beach post and had to respond. What part of Wales are you from? My Dad was from around Cardiff. We have been to Curacao several times and unfortunately only been to the beach once. We are going to be there in March and are looking for a nice beach also. When will you be in Curacao? Think we are there on March 5th. Have a great trip. B Schmidt (maiden name Brewer)
