Back from Majesty 11.24

Just got back from the Majesty cruise, yesterday. This was my first cruise, so didn't know exactly what to expect. I was surprised how easy it was getting on and off the ship. NCL had this very organized, in my opinion. We chose the Majesty for the convenience of leaving out of Charleston. This was the sailing that had the itenirary changed from Grand Cayman, Cozumel and Key West, to Nassau, Great Stirrup Cay and Key West. I was disappointed at not being able to go to Cozumel, but I hadn't been to the other places, either, so I was ok with it. I still enjoyed the cruise and the fantastic crew. I can't imagine the crew on any other cruise line or ship being any better than the one on the Majesty.

As far as the ship, yes, it is an older ship and we knew that when booking. The ship was very clean and maintained from what we saw. We had a CC superior cabin on deck 8. The cabin had plenty of storage for us, and the beds were surprisingly comfortable. We like to sleep cool, and that was no problem as we kept it cold enough to hang meat in! The bathroom was small, but my travel companion has a very, very small place on the S.C. coast that we stay at often, so this wasn't a problem for us. We never had a problem with the air conditioner or water being brown. We brought water bottles, filled them and put them in our fridge. We even brought back soda from Nassau to have on board. Our room was always made up in the evening with mints on the pillow's and the occaisional towel animal. If there was anything we needed, our room stewards were always there to help out. We did use room service, a lot. We had breakfast in bed almost every morning, and a sandwich, pizza or dessert for late night snack. Sometimes ordering a little extra to have in the fridge for a snack. The coffee was very good.

It could have just been us, but as far as the food, it was just ok for me. We ate at the Seven Seas several times and other times at the buffet by the pool. The presentation was always very good, and the food areas were always clean, clean, clean with santizer at every entrance. We never went hungry, that's for sure.

We didn't really go to any of the shows, but if you miss them, they play them on a channel in your cabin. Other channels included CNN, ESPN, ship information and a couple of movie channels. We did catch several good movies while in the cabin. We felt the cabin was very comfortable.

Because of the issued credits from the inteniary change, we ended up with a $0.00 balance on our on board account. And, we did spend on board from bar, to cash advances for the casino to a little shopping at the on board shops. No complaints with the credits, either.

The only real complaint I would have, and it was no ones fault, was it was rough seas going out and even rougher coming back. We had closet doors opening and things rolling around on the tables. Being my first cruise, I didn't know what to expect, but after talking with an experienced crusier, it was rough and not every sailing.

Over all it was a very nice cruise, and would most likely do it again. The islands were absolutely beautiful. I was a bit concerned about being tendered to Great Stirrup Cay, but even that was a breeze...

Thanks to all of you guys for all the information I received here. It certainly made the cruise much easier knowing the answers to so many questions before cruising. This site is definitely the place to go with questions or concerns about sailing.

I am glad you had a good time. My husband and I were on the cruise the week before to Bermuda and got in a day late because of the emergency resue and then rough weather. I was worried about the cruise that left on Sun instead of Sat and where it would go after losing a day. We went on the same cruise you went on 2 years ago over Thanksgiving and the ship could not get into Grand Caymon. We then had to go onto Cozumel. It wasn't their fault. We loved the Majesty then and our past cruise to Bermuda.

Thanks for the nice review. Glad to hear that you had a nice cruise! Always hear mixed things about Majesty - but like you mentioned it's an older ship with great staff. We will be on Majesty in 2 weeks and I can't wait! I don't care where we go but hope not to miss Key West one of the few places I have not been to at this point. Did you go to the Bistro? Any other hints? Thanks Kathy

I wish we had the same experience you did last week. We felt the food was not good, sanitation was not good, and the boat was not well-maintained. We had toilet issues for 2 days, and 4 days later they STILL hadn't put the ceiling back together on our hallway, and there was "toilet remains" still on the wall. The waitstaff were not well-mannered, and allowed for unsanitary practices, including restocking unused utensils from our table for use by other passengers without putting it through the dishwasher! And we had colds, so they were germy!!

Now, I will say that the cruise director and her staff were wonderful, the shows were GREAT, and the casino staff were extremely friendly. But when the food and the service are not up to par, it makes for an extremely disappointing cruise. Unless you have never cruised before, you will be disappointed. The Majesty does not live up to any of the other 7 cruises we have taken. We had no issue with the size of the ship, just the food/sanitation/housekeeping quality.

Sorry to hear you had a such a terrible time. Maybe, we were lucky or you unlucky, but we experienced none of that you mentioned. Everything was always clean and never saw anything unsanitary. For us, the waitstaff was extremely nice and professional. Hopefully, you reported the bad ones. Again, sorry it was a bad trip for you. Hopefully, there was at least a few good parts of the trip.

If folks would read all the signs, and not flush things that aren't suppose to be flushed, this would probably remedy the toilet problems I hear about on ships.
