Budget Queen Posted September 8, 2004 #2 Share Posted September 8, 2004 No cruise- a few days over 2 weeks interior Alaska touring. Did several boat tours and flights, rented a motorcycle and went 350 miles with that. Add 2400 miles via car. :) (but saved 300 via the ferry :) ) A GREAT trip for me- BUT I ran into many tour people who were just so disappointed with the smoke- some clearly thinking their trip was ruined. Many stated they were rushed and they are the ones who were on the short tours. Not to sound harsh- but most who I talked to didn't have a clue. One 4 some- complained bitterly over the cab fare in Fairbanks to the Large Animal research tour (I finally got to take it :) ) and wanted to know if they could avoid the cab back??? I mentioned- why didn't they rent a car?? Anyway- they scuffed over my suggestion to walk back to the campus- they wanted to see the museum- clear marked trail there- about a mile. Last I saw them- as I was driving by was them looking at the trail map- they were not dressed for any extended walking- wrong footwear. Bottom line- be FORGIVING in Alaska- there are no guarantees on weather or nature. Many complaints about distant wildlife- binoculars ARE necessary- many people without them. Have back up plans for your back up plans. I ended up with some touring changes and no sweat for me. :) Happy Alaska travels everyone!!!!
