arawak Posted November 28, 2007 #1 Share Posted November 28, 2007 Our ship is due to dock at Southampton at 5.00 a.m. Does anyone know if the disembarkation and immigration process is quick enough that one can safely reserve seating on a 9.30 train? Should be no problem the station is very close. Imigration/customs is a breeze, you are entering a civilised country.
yoj13 Posted November 28, 2007 #3 Share Posted November 28, 2007 Hi, Assuming nothing untowards happens between now and 5 am and you opt to take your cases off yourselves, there is absolutely nothing to stop you from being at the railway station by then. From dock side to the Railway Station is a short taxi ride and should cost you in the region of £5 - £7. If you are wanting to get to London (waterloo) you have 2 options. 1. log onto www.megatrain.co.uk single Adult fare is £12 and they still have availability. Departs 9.55 a.m. arrives 11.34 a.m. OR 2. log onto www.virgintrains.com. Single adult fare is £27.40 and they also have availability Single Adult Fare is £27.40 !!!!. Departs 9.30 a.m. Arrives 10.459 a.m. I know which one I would choose! We always use the megatrain and nearly always travel from Southampton post cruise up to London, but mostly we pay a £1. Yes a £1 - not a typing error. Unfortunately you are a bit late for that but £12 is still a cheap fare. All e tickets as well. Hope you can grab a bargain. arawak Posted November 28, 2007 Author #4 Share Posted November 28, 2007 Thanks yoj13 -- sounds like good advice. You don't have to be a UK resident to book the megatrain?
yoj13 Posted November 29, 2007 #5 Share Posted November 29, 2007 Hi, I am so sorry to be late in answering your query, but megatrain is open to anyone. By now, of course, you should be sorted. I do hope you were able to get the megatrain tickets.

What has a civilised country got to do with immigration and customs if they are short staffed, overworked and maybe stressed. I have experienced these problems in a number of so called civilised countries.
