misand Posted December 8, 2007 #1 Share Posted December 8, 2007 Hello, We leave on the Spirit in 6 weeks. Would like to know where children are not allowed? My 9 yo loves to dance, where can we go on the ship? Thanks MISAND:o
Ms belp Posted December 8, 2007 #2 Share Posted December 8, 2007 I haven't been on the Spirit before, but in general, I can tell you that these places are considered adult venues...not for children. They do have a wonderful kid's place where they sing and dance and tour the ship. My favorite memory is the children roaming around singing "Hot, hot, hot" with their cruise "babysitters". In general, kids don't belong in these adult venues; it will save you a lot of angry glares.:)
misand Posted December 8, 2007 Author #3 Share Posted December 8, 2007 On Carnival the only place that was adult only was the disco at night. Do they have very many deck parties because we also did that alot on RCL. It sure would be a bummer if they didn't! Misand
coka Posted December 8, 2007 #4 Share Posted December 8, 2007 Children are not allowed in the casino and in the nightclub/disco after 11:00pm. I have seen families with kids enjoying the bands/other lounges during the evening hours. Sometimes country line dancing is offered, ballroom dancing, theme parties and such. On the Spirit, you have to walk by the casino to get to the nightclub. Coka
garycarla Posted December 8, 2007 #5 Share Posted December 8, 2007 I have seen children just about anywhere on the ship, including the disco and casino. Granted, those in the casino were either passing through or only there a few minutes, so no "blasting the parents". Yes, there are kids activities, but they are welcome in the other lounges, assuming they act like young adults.
LAnn Posted December 8, 2007 #6 Share Posted December 8, 2007 We've cruised on several lines including Norwegian and have always danced with our daughter to a live band in one of the lounges for a short while at some point. She is always well-dressed and well-behaved. Once a lady came up to us with tears in her eyes and said that her husband had danced with their daughter when she was little, and most recently just a few weeks ago at her wedding. She reminded us to enjoy our little girl because the time goes by so fast. So yes, take your daughter to the lounges and dance and have a great time! Mich1121 Posted December 8, 2007 #7 Share Posted December 8, 2007 I sailed on the Spirit in April of 2006. In the night club connected to the casino they offered family style events up until 10 pm. They had karaoke and lip singing contests and fun events for families of all ages. After 10 in this club it is strictly for adults. A lot of drinking and smoking and just not age appropriate for children. There is also a teen club that you may be able to take her to. I'm not sure of the age but I'm sure she will love it. They have dancing and singing as well. The Spirit did a good job of having family events during day and early night time hours and after that it is kind of strictly adult time with the exception of the teen dance club. There is a also a pub called Henry's that has live music and a pop corn machine which makes fresh pop corn several times a day. I noticed a lot of families with children in there and no one seemed to mind. They danced and listened to the music while eating pop corn. It is a small place. I recommened it but if it is not your thing know any time of night you can stop in for fresh pop corn. I had a great time on the Spirit and will be going on the Gem in March. Try checking out the kids club during the day as well for activities. My son loved it there.

As long as your children are behaving there is nothing that they can say. We went to a comedian one night on the ship and a passanger commented to us that he thought the language & content would be too "mature" for her. I politley explained that she hears it home on TV so what is the difference except she can see it live. He just nodded and walked away

Misand There were lots of families having fun and dancing at the deck parties when we were on the Majesty, Spirit and the Dawn. The only place on the Spirit for dancing that is adult only that I am aware of is the lounge off of the casino in the later evenings after 10 or 11pm. Enjoy your cruise:)

rybreadsmom Posted December 8, 2007 #11 Share Posted December 8, 2007 Hello, We leave on the Spirit in 6 weeks. Would like to know where children are not allowed? My 9 yo loves to dance, where can we go on the ship? Thanks MISAND:o I was on the Spirit in November. Other than obviously avoiding the casino nightclub, your kid should be able to have a blast. As well as the kids club (sorry, I don't know too much about that) there is plenty of music and dancing going on, usually by the pool on Deck 12. CanadianTwosome Posted December 8, 2007 #12 Share Posted December 8, 2007 The deck parties have always been a great place for everyone to dance and have fun. Inside, to me, seeing well behaved kids dancing with their families is no different than seeing the same thing at a wedding reception or similar event. Later on I think people expect an adults-only environment in the dancing venue(s), but your 9 year old is probably going to be in bed by then - at least I know mine will if I want her to be tolerable the next day!! :) (Interestingly enough, I have just directed her to her room for a nap since she and her friend were awake until well after midnight last night - no matter how many times you tell them to go to sleep, a sleepover rarely involves actual sleeping... )
Down-Unders Posted December 8, 2007 #13 Share Posted December 8, 2007 Hello, We leave on the Spirit in 6 weeks. Would like to know where children are not allowed? My 9 yo loves to dance, where can we go on the ship? Thanks MISAND:o You take your little 9 year old dancing, there are some people on these boards who if they had their way would have kids free cruises. It sounds like a little girl and I bet she loves dressing up for dinner too. Enjoy your cruise.

I think part of the problem are the grumpy adults, not the children!
misand Posted December 9, 2007 Author #15 Share Posted December 9, 2007 I love the great feedback! All of the posts made me smile, even a little teary eyed! I'll never forget dancing the first night on deck with my daughters. The joy on their faces, I've never seen them look so utterly happy! I can still picture it today. And your right they love to dress up! My oldest always had a hard time deciding between the kids club and deck parties. I love getting to do fun stuff with them, all too soon they grow up! mkad1109 Posted December 14, 2007 #16 Share Posted December 14, 2007 I would simply nod my head as well. I think you may have missed the point. It really wasn't up to another passenger to comment on what the OP thought appropriate for HER daughter. Are we to assume that you would have as well felt comfortable commenting in the first place? misand Posted December 14, 2007 Author #17 Share Posted December 14, 2007 Looks like we will have fun no matter what!:) It's almost time to tell my girls their big surprise! The cruise! So tuff to keep the secret! Misand
Toyz711 Posted December 14, 2007 #18 Share Posted December 14, 2007 the galaxy of the stars has some of the games going on between 8 to 10, not-so-newly (which could get risque..but not on our cruise, it was very PG), the "weakest link" was very, very PG..between times they can have the house band playing. since it's a big lounge and you don't have to sit by the bar, i don't see why kids couldn't be in there. out by the pool they have live music and buffet in the evenings, many time kids were up there dancing .. and we didn't have that many kids on board. also, up champagne charlies..the music can be heard all over the atrium, if you don't want to be by the bar, go dancing around the atrium, the adults were. Cosmopolitan Posted December 14, 2007 #19 Share Posted December 14, 2007 Hello, We leave on the Spirit in 6 weeks. Would like to know where children are not allowed? My 9 yo loves to dance, where can we go on the ship? Thanks MISAND:o If I remember correctly, after 11PM they "request" that children are not in the lounges. But, I think they may mean "unattended" children. The deck parties are great for the kids. The only game show on a ship that I have heard an announcement for those under 18 to please leave the lounge was "The Quest". Have a great cruise:)
cheshiremackat Posted December 14, 2007 #20 Share Posted December 14, 2007 When we were on the Pearl in March '07, the actively kicked children (attened to or not) out of Bliss... there was a sign stating you must be 21yrs or over to enter. Frankly I agree, there should be some area of the cruise that is unavailable to children. There are bed/couches in Bliss! I can imagine all the naughtiness that can occur in there at night... would you really be comfortable with a 9-year old watching or participating on some of the dirty dancing  ! I definitely think Bliss is *not* a place for Children!
