Las Americas Hotel and Resort...

Hi! I was wondering if anyone did a pool excursion on their own, (meaning, not with the ship)? One hotel in particular is the Las Americas Hotel and Resort...has anyone had any experience taking a taxi there and/or experience with the resort? We're coming in on Disney in August and thought we'd try to do this on our own since Disney's excursions are so expensive.
