w8ing2cruz Posted January 14, 2008 #1 Share Posted January 14, 2008 We'll be on the Serenade very shortly :D can you get sunburned, does the roof ever open, is it air conditioned? Trying to figure this out - besides being very quiet (no kids) what are the other benefits for hanging here rather than on the pool deck?

Trying to figure this out - besides being very quiet (no kids) what are the other benefits for hanging here rather than on the pool deck? yes the roof retracts, it was closed the whole time on our Alaska cruise of course, I am quite sure there is no a/c, never heard of that. There really are no "benefits" to it, just adults only, no kids (16 and up though) it's quiet and they have a great pool bar. It's also very pretty. You will figure it all out once you board! Have a great cruise :)
Sue L Posted January 14, 2008 #3 Share Posted January 14, 2008 The roof was closed for the whole time for our cruise but it was Alaska so it was a good thing:p The pool is heated and the area is temp controlled but not too hot, I would say upper 70's low 80's. It was very pleasant sitting in a bathing suit and relaxing in there. Here is looking down through the roof.
sandytoes03 Posted January 14, 2008 #4 Share Posted January 14, 2008 It's one of my favorite places on the ship. Very quiet and always very pretty. Enjoy.
dam1050 Posted January 14, 2008 #5 Share Posted January 14, 2008 A couple of benefits I can think of are that it is a non-smoking area, no children, less crowded than the outside pool, and usually open 24 hours for a refreshing swim late at night. Nice pizza slices there too ! :)
TennesseeTeachers Posted January 14, 2008 #6 Share Posted January 14, 2008 To add to what has already been said the chairs in that section are nicer in that they often have a cushion on them. It is a nice place to relax. Darrell Duncan
Rare hcat Posted January 14, 2008 #7 Share Posted January 14, 2008 the solarium areas get very loud as the crowds build later in the day--it's the acoustics not the people...but if you want calm & tranquility go early or late or on a ports day.. lovely areas other than the din! frudutx Posted January 14, 2008 #8 Share Posted January 14, 2008 When we sailed Serenade on the Canal transit they opened the roof to "air it out" one afternoon. It was fabulous. I want to say it was while we were in port in Cartagena. Now, there are times when they do allow children but that's when the outdoor pools can not be used. Like when the ship is sailing in Alaska then the pool is available for family use during certain hours of the day. But as the other posters have said you will love it, it has become one of our favorite spots on most of our cruises. d
