Sailfish Posted September 14, 2004 #1 Share Posted September 14, 2004 We will be on the Pride over Thanksgiving week, and have a whale watching tour booked independent of the cruise line. We were just wondering if it is worth going on a whale watching tour in late November, as I recently read that the best time to go whale watching in P.V. is in December and January. There must be some whales in the area, or they would not be offering the whale watching tour in the first place. But I was just curious if we might not be better off going snorkeling or doing something else, if the whales are few and far between. I'd love to get feed back from people who have gone whale watching in P.V. Thanks.
pvpam Posted September 15, 2004 #2 Share Posted September 15, 2004 Hola from PV...I hate to burst your bubble, but legally, whale watching does not begin here until December 15th. So, whoever you booked with is not following the rules/law here. There will be some whales in the bay at that time, but far out in the bay. The laws are made so that the whales can get settled into the bay, not disturb them and let them adjust. I would very much question who you booked with! Sailfish Posted September 15, 2004 Author #3 Share Posted September 15, 2004 Thanks for your prompt reply. I reserved our whale watching tour on the internet - I don't recall the company, but the boat is called the Vallarta Sol, I believe. We had a choice of either doing a party boat/snorkeling tour or whale watching with the same company. We opted for the whale watching. We didn't have to put down any deposit. I'm wondering why they cofirmed our whale watching tour for Thanksgiving week if it's not legal! Any way, I appreciate your feedback.
natesfirewife Posted October 6, 2004 #4 Share Posted October 6, 2004 They can still take you out to look, it's just that whale season doesn't start until then. We went one year for Thanksgiving and saw dolphins and I think one tiny part of the whale. Misty
