NCL Summit Lavender Sojourn and Winery and other Kahulului questions

We are on the May 11 Pride of Aloha sailing stopping at Kahului. I was looking for something to do for the long day in Maui that doesn't involve renting a car.

I read a lot about how phenomenal the Haleakala Crater is there. Robert's offers that tour for minimal However, that would allow a lot of time left in the day.

I read something the other day that made me believe that Kahulului is a working port, and there isn't much right there. I may be wrong.

I then thought about the free shuttle to Whaler's Village. However, after reading those posts I assume the shuttle is for those who stop on the other side of Maui.

Therefore, I am wondering if anyone has any knowledge of the above tour. It is all day, in a van of 6-8, doesn't sound rushed, and includes Haleakala plus other stops. Anyone familiar with the stops?

I just didn't want to do a short tour with Robert's and then go back and sit on the ship. Any other ideas for that day?

That is the only excursion I am undecided about....

Thanks for any feedback. We are doing the luau prior in Honolulu so we have all day to do something there.

If you are not renting a car I would take the all day tour. Kahului Harbor is a working harbor and there's not much w/in walking distance. The shopping center nearby provides a free shuttle. But, it's like any other shopping center. I wouldn't waste my time on it again.

Whaler's Cove is past Lahaina on the other side of the island.

If you are desperate to buy something they have some vendors inside the harbor bldging before you enter the ship.

I just looked at NCL website to see what is offered on the Haleakala Tour. Personally I love that route. I have driven it many times in a rental car. It is mostly a scenic drive with stops at the winery, Lavender Farm and Makawao.

Haleakala...fab drive and may see State of Hawai`i bird.."Nene" plus Silversword plants.

T/Winery...the drive is fabulous, very narrow and scenic. The winery itself is small and cute. The wine is so-so.

Lavender Farm...lovely plus nice shop and small hotel nearby with fab view from restaurant and really nice art gallery.

Makawao...small, artsy. Don't miss the glass blowing shop with free demo.

This tour is a winner.

I thought I would dredge this up with the hope someone has actually gone on this excursion. I was just wondering if someone went if they thought it was worth the money. It is the only excursion I am booking with NCL.

Thanks,

JLA
