duceno1 Posted January 28, 2008 #1 Share Posted January 28, 2008 Hi, could someone tell me how many are needed to qualify for a group rate? Generally, what is that discount? Thanks
andyjo0930 Posted January 28, 2008 #2 Share Posted January 28, 2008 You need 8 cabins to qualify as a group. For each group of 8 cabins, you should receive one free berth. If you have 4 people in a cabin, it still only counts as 1 cabin, its not how many people its how many cabins. Groups now must be booked through a TA. 4bythebeach Posted January 28, 2008 #3 Share Posted January 28, 2008 I haven't booked a group cruise for 2 years, so my info may be a little outdated, but 2 years ago you had to book at least 8 rooms. Gratuities are prepaid only. The group will designate one contact person and that person will be the one to call RC anytime there are changes or updates, etc..... The contact person gets (again 2 years ago) free fare. This does not include the taxes or the prepaid gratuities. Each adult room got a bottle of cheap bubbly. The kid rooms, got sparkling cider. Conanc Posted January 28, 2008 #4 Share Posted January 28, 2008 There are also what they call GAP points (group amenities points) assigned to some sailings. You can use the GAP points for certain amenities that the group leader or TA can choose from....bonuses for onboard credit, stateroom upgrades, group party, bottle of wine, specialty restaurant certificates, etc.

lvtotrvl1 Posted January 29, 2008 #6 Share Posted January 29, 2008 The rates for a group are the same rate that you will see for individual bookings on the day that you hold the cabins. You will have a certain amount of time to deposit those cabins at that rate. During this time the individual rates may increase, but your group rates will not. If deposits are not made in time, you will lose some of your group inventory and after that you can add it again at the prevailing rates. Hope this isn't confusing...
