Travel with hoyer

Hi, has anyone ever taken a hoyer lift on a flight with them? Mine is able to separate from the base, though it is a bit cumbersome and heavy. I vaguely recall taking it along on a flight several years ago, but am not sure if it's worth it to take again or to just spend the $300/week to rent one?

Well, other than the Hoyer Advance, I wouldn't ever buy a Hoyer brand lift. We do have a travel lift we use (NOT a Hoyer), and we gate check it with the wheelchair when we fly. It has a case to prevent severe damage (and is labeled in both English and Spanish), but we worry about it getting damaged if we check it with the other baggage, and I don't trust that it will arrive with us (a disaster for a cruise) unless we see it at any connections.
