wckdtrix Posted February 6, 2008 #1 Share Posted February 6, 2008 We are back from the Southern Caribbean aboard the Galaxy. We went to San Juan a day early, we stayed at the Holiday Inn Isla Verde. It was a very nice hotel. We were on the top floor and had a small "standing room only" balcony where we had a view of the ocean...very nice. Room was small though, but that was alright with us We boarded the Galaxy around one or two in the afternoon the next day. The boarding process went very smoothly. The Galaxy seemed to be in good condition...I didnt notice any of the "worn" areas that others have commented on about this ship. She seemed to be very nice to me. Our room was an inside cabin on deck 8. It was a typical small room, but had plenty of storage space, and was nice. Nothing too special, but it certainly served its purpose. Food on the Galaxy was great, we didnt have one meal that we didnt enjoy. Breakfast and lunch were usually in the buffet and our dinners were in the main dining room. The food was fantastic in both. Also, we really enjoyed the sushi bar each night. We didnt go to too many shows. We saw a comedian that was pretty funny, a juggler/physical comedy show (I think we seen this guy before on another cruise, but it was still fun)...also watched some of the superbowl in the theater. Service aboard was fantastic. Everyone wanted to please, and everyone had a smile on their face...the crew always said "hello" or some other greeting everytime you would pass them. The ports were very nice. We enjoyed them all. I will try to remember exactly where we went and what we did...but I may not recall all of them right now. Tortola - Snorkeled at Norman Island in the caves. It was probably one of the best snorkeling trips we have done...the caves were really neat to explore a little. Barbados - 4X4 Monkey Encounter. This was really neat, and worth doing for us. We got to the nature reserve right at feeding time, so we saw a bunch of monkeys (and other creatures). St. Martin - Walked around and shopped...and visited some casinos St. Lucia - Zip line and Sky canopy tour. This was very fun. We really enjoyed it. Grenada - Kayak tour. This was a very fun but very tiring tour. We enjoyed it as well. Curacao - Scooter Tour. We found a Scooter rental company right at the pier and negotiated a guided tour of the island. It was a lot of fun. We saw the Seaquarium, the Caves, and the ostrich farm...plus a lot of other sites. Aruba - Shopped and went to Casinos. We really enjoyed our trip. The ship was great, and the islands were great. Only had a minor complaint, and it was really no big deal....but we didn't get a Celebrity tote bag in our room...so we asked guest relations if they had discontinued this, and they said they still provided them and would make sure we would get one in our room....but we never got it. No big deal, we just had to scramble to get a "beach bag" for our excursions. Feel free to ask me any questions, I will do my best to answer anything. Our first Southern Caribbean cruise, on our first ever balcony, was on Galaxy, & one we'll always rembember....... So she should be even better when we board her after her upcoming dry dock in April!:D Yeah, I was a bit worried after reading a lot of comments on here about her....but she looked great to me. I guess if I had spent my time going over the ship and looking in every corner and behind every piece of furniture I might have found some worn areas...but to the average person who is not making it a mission to find faults with something, she looked great to me. I honestly can't think of a single area that looked bad at all to me. I don't even remember any stained carpet (except for an area in the nightclub where someone obviously couldnt hold their liquor the night before....but they did appear to have cleaned it up, and had fans blowing it dry) I would go back on her in a second, even without the drydock. :)

Lsimon Posted February 7, 2008 #10 Share Posted February 7, 2008 ...Any hints and tips to make our trip even better would be great. Read through these board carefully - and if you haven't done so already then find the Roll Call for your cruise and talk to your fellow cruise mates about your particular cruise and plans. D&L Posted February 8, 2008 #11 Share Posted February 8, 2008 We wouldn't sail her three years straight if it was the dog some depict her to be. We love the Galaxy. In fact we have loved every cruise we've been on-all Celebrity.

Don't be worried. Its a beautiful ship, with an excellent crew, and excellent food. I find a lot of people that post on here seem to look for problems to complain about. Out of all the complaints I have read on here about Galaxy, the only thing I noticed was the foggy windows in the nightclub area, and that sure didn't affect my experience in a negative way. We loved it, and wish we were still on her. I really can't think of any tips or hints to pass along, other than have a great time, and don't be worried.:)
Beth Ann Posted February 8, 2008 #14 Share Posted February 8, 2008 Hi, We will be on the Galaxy in March. Could you tell me how many formal nights there were on your sailing?
wckdtrix Posted February 8, 2008 Author #15 Share Posted February 8, 2008 Hi, We will be on the Galaxy in March. Could you tell me how many formal nights there were on your sailing? We only had 2 formal nights, and 3 informal nights...the other 5 nights were casual. This differed from our cruise document information, I think. I think that said 3 formals and 2 informals...
