Walk From Mullet Beach To Maho Beach?

Thanks for bringing this thread up. I'm book marking too.

So it was mentioned that it's a 10 minute walk from mullet to the main road, but how far is it total to Maho (not stopping for liquor or ice cream :D)? Can this be done with two 5 year olds? Or is it too busy of a street to do? Are there sidewalks? I know last time we were at Maho the traffic was ridiculous and barely any room to walk.

We were just there a week ago. Its an easy walk that took us maybe 10-15 mins. From Mullet to the golf course pro shop is maybe 5 minutes of non sidewalks but you are walking on the side of the golf course fairway. on the right hand side just past the pro shop, the sidewalks take you all the way to Maho. On Maho be very careful with wee ones near the road. The traffic was rather thick. Mullet is an incredible beach that we just loved.

So you are saying just a 15 minute walk total from Mullet to Maho right?

I will definitely be careful with the little ones...AND myself. Last time I was there I fell on the concrete wall and broke my hand. :(

I have watched videos of Mullet and looked at pictures. It looks like some days the water is calm and other days the water and waves and HUGE. I watched people surfing, which looked like a lot of fun, but nothing that little ones would be able to enjoy at a beach. So is this and miss and hit type of thing there? Is there a certain season that it's like that? We are going in May.

Im sorry if this was already answered, but are there chair rentals and food/drink available on Mullet Bay Beach? May go there in the morning and walk to Maho for some plane landings in the afternoon!

Yes chairs, umbrella rentals and a port-o-potty are available. You may want to wait to each lunch at Maho (although food is also available at Mullet) just because noon is a good time for plane watching.

  • 2 weeks later...

thanks shygirl for info. Was the cruise what we r expecting. 2nd time from years ago.

Just got back, we cabbed it to Mullet beach and walk to Maho. My In-laws were a bit apprehensive about being the only ones walking with no sidewalks. But once we got to the shopping area we were fine. After 4 planes at Maho, we went to the grocery store and purchased liquer and soda. Liquer was CHEAP! Walked towards the casino and a local bus with PhilipB sign was waiting empty across the road. $2 back to Phillipsburg and $2 more to the pier. Still beats $7 each by cab. We got stuck waiting for the bridge but did managed to enjoy sitting with locals and hearing a different French. Bus dropped us off in front of the pier gate and he was not allowed in.

Mullet beach was a bit crowded. 2 sets of chair vendors along the left(facing water) where the water was more calm. We wanted to just lay our towels down and jump in the water; so we were closer to the middle by the volleyball courts. Tons of white/silver fishes at our feet about 5inches in length. We had Rosie's bbq ribs for snack; very good! and inexpensive.

Kind of off topic, but how far is the cab ride from the cruise port to Mullet? And then how much from Maho back to the port? I know we should give ourselves plenty of time to get back to the ship (traffic issues) but how much time is "enough" time?

20-25 mins to Mullet from the cruise port. Traffic back depends on when you leave... We left around 2-2:30 and it took us 20 mins to get to Front street to do some shopping. then we picked up the water taxi which took around 5 mins.

O, that isn't too bad at all. I expected much worse.

I would expect 30 minutes. You may run into congestion from the bridge in Simpson Bay. 20 minutes is really smooth sailing and not the norm with multiple ships in. I have not been on the island since the Causeway bridge has opened so perhaps this has helped clear some traffic from the Simpson Bay area.

The 10-12 minute figure was from Mullet Bay Beach out to the Maho complex to catch a taxi. Maho Beach is just a bit farther, but the entire distance is flat and easily walkable.

We are thinking of visiting Mullet Beach and then walk to Maho Beach. How should we go about making a stop at the Carousel Gelatin Bar? Or, should we not worry about doing this?

Thanks

It's on the way back from Maho to the town or pier. I like everything about the Carousel. So unique!:)

Just for clarification. Does this (red trail) look about right on the way to walk out of Mullet and on the way to Maho?

I know there was mention of a golf course or something and I want to make sure I'm going the right way and not on someone's property. I also know there are resorts there, but it looks like they may be a little closer to the ocean area.

I would just follow the road through the area. There may well be a shortcut across the golf course and through the resort, but I'm not personally aware of it.

I've marked my path on this new Google Earth shot.

By the way, after the second jog leaving Mullet Bay Beach, that's the main road around the island. Be careful.

Here's one that Gary had posted on one of the pages on this thread. It's correct and you basically just retrace your taxis route from the way in. You can not get lost.

I would have walked this with my 5 year olds (way back now), no problem. I would avoid the crazy Maho traffic ( you remember the road between the beach and the fence). Here is what i would do. Once you get out of the road that goes from Mullet to the main road, cross the road by the pharmacy and turn right on that sidewalk and walk past all the shops and the casino and then at the end of the road cross the road and go on to the beach at Guy's Driftwood bar even if you want to settle down at the Sunset end. It's not that far but I would feel safer with them walking in the sand over to Sunset Bar and Grill instead of walking beside the traffic myself.

Have fun. They will love it.:)

Geesh, I don't know how I missed this. I remember seeing it on here and then I went to google earth to get a better look. In google earth, the (what I think it is) main road is highlighted in yellow already. For some reason I thought the picture that was already posted was just a shot of that map and not the actual walking route. (Hitting forehead now for not paying better attention). :p

At least I know I picked the right route. :o

Thanks for the info. That's what we'll do. I think we are going to go to Guy's instead of Sunset this time around. So that will put us right there where we need to be. Awesome. Thanks for your help. I feel good about this now. :)

I have often said that I wish that Gary had a sticky on the first page of the St. Maarten board. I think that his maps and directions are so valuable.

I love to read your reviews so make sure that you come back and tell us about your day.:)

Thanks. I will definitely have a full review coming in May. :D Only this time, I plan on coming back without any broken bones from the concrete wall at Maho! :o
