2009 Brides!

Hi all. We're getting married aboard the Freedom of the Seas March 1, 2009 in port at Miami. We just paid for the wedding package and the buffet lunch reception. So far everything seems good. I wish they had a better cake selection, or let me bring my own. Chocolate or vanilla just seems too plain. I ended up with the buffet instead of the sit down, because they do not let any music or decorations in. Totally weird.

Anyone have any helpful hints for the cruise or wedding? I'm putting together a "cheat sheet" for my guests so they can get around better and save some money. It's amazing what you find out on these boards.

Alaska, what do you plan on putting on your cheat sheet? I think it's a great idea.

In so far my cheet sheet has things like... if you go to the casino to get cash (leave out the part about not gambling) you don't pay a fee, if you have someone who has to use the elevator (like my future mother in law) to get them a life preserver and to the deck prior to announcments as they shut them down for the drill prior to departure. If you have a standard room you can ask the attendant for robes without a problem. They do not normally put out splenda on tables you have to ask for it. Then they normally put it on your table from then on. Also if you are in the main dining area you can ask for things that are not on the menu or even from a different restaurant. A lot of the other restaurants charge a cover fee, so it's a nice way to get around it. Johny Rockets charges a somethihng like a $20 cover, but if you are only going there for drinks you just have to let them know and you do not have to pay it. Also if you get beer from Rockets is like 4.05 for a 20oz (you can take with you) where as if you go somewhere else you pay 4.50 for a twelve ounce beer. Make your reservations for Portofinos and Chops as soon as you know when you want to go. They tend to be filled quickly and you can get some bad seats. You can go to the pursers desk to get a map of the ship and they can also hole punch your sea pass for you (I'm supplying my group with lanyards). I wonder if I can find them personalized for a good price.

Please imagine that I am getting most of this from other threads from more experienced cruisers. If anyone knows any good things let me know, and I hope this can also help some of you all. If I get any juicy tidbits, I'll pass them on.:)

I dont know that this is helpful, but its something I told my bridesmaids to help them out with money.

You can ask at the pursers desk to have your automatic tip taken off of your account. On all of my other cruises I have chosen to tip indepedently. I only went to the fancy dining hall once, thus I didnt leave as big of a tip to our waiter there. I have found that tipping independently has saved me a few bucks in the past.

I usually end up spending almost the whole 70 dollars anyways but at least it goes to the people I find the most deserving.

I thought i would pass on some info for you if your doing OOT bags for you guests on the ship. I thought these were cute from oriental trading.

I am sailing on May 11, 2008 with a group of 43 people and was thinking about doing goodie bags for our people.

Good luck and have a great time planning.

Well, I am the mother of the bride. I will have to tell my daughter about this board.

We booked the wedding this week. Bride and Groom decided on

June 15, 2009, Carnival Triumph, leaving from NYC to Canada.

This will be different for my daughter and myself, we have always done the Caribbean Cruises. The groom has never been on a cruise.

We are truly excited. Lot's of family and friends want to go, not just for the ceremony, but for the cruise.

No one in our family has ever had a wedding like this. Although, two of her cousins recently had non traditional type weddings.

Oh wow I'm not the only one suffering from excitement/anxiety/stress?? My FI and I are also first time cruisers. So we're definately in the same boat. I'm also stressing about the fact that my FI and I come from (2) totally different worlds. He's pakistani and I'm Italian...and let me tell you the families are not impressed with our descision not to invovle religion or customs while planning our wedding. " A CRUISE WEDDING???? WHO DOES THAT??" lol So believe me I'm afraid I might be bald before I get married. Look out for my next post. "Anyone know of a great online wig shop?" lol

As for you anxiety about a second marriage the same date as your first well here is a little thing I've learned from an old co-worker once. You can not live your life walking around the places, the songs, or the things that reminder you of an ex... Share them with your new love and quote " TO KILL A MEMORY" from that moment on you make new wonderful memories that remind you of our true love. ;)

As for Princess Itinery release grrrrrr:mad: I keep hearing different dates. My travel agent said the end of April but a couple of different post I've read stated May or June. When I read June I began to cry. I can't wait any longer lol!! Glad we've had the chance to share our story. Looking forward to learning more about 2009 brides and princess cruising.

Ciao

Anna

Sorry for not getting back sooner. This is just the WORST time of the semester. Seems like I'm constantly behind in all aspects--work, home, wedding planning.

Your advice about 2nd weddings was GREAT!! Loved it. :D

Sounds like you have your hands full with 2 families with strong cultures blending together. My cousin married a Italian guy--very traditional family. They were all FROM Italy and moved with several other families from their small town (this we about 20 years ago). Grandma didn't even speak English. he was the first of 4 brothers to get married and I remember there was lots of expectations from his side about "the way things were done." Fortunately, her family is Irish Catholic (so everyone was happy about the Catholic Mass) but there isn't anything "Irish" that side of the family does at weddings so she only had his side to deal with.

My dad, whose passed away now, was Jewish, but not really religious, so that aspect didn't factor into plans for my first wedding. I've had friends trying to combine Jewish and Christian traditions and that's complicated too.

It's so hard when you're trying to please everyone. Stick to your guns, girl! It's your day!! Cruising is a great way to start. ;)

Let me know if you hear anything about Princess dates becoming open. You're definitely ahead of me--you have a travel agent! I don't even have that done yet. LOL!!!!:eek:

From your picture it looks like you have beautiful hair so please leave some for the wedding!! LOL!! We can use each other for stress relief.

Itineraries finally came out. We're getting married on May 24, 2009 aboard the Caribbean Princess. It finally feels official!

Congratulations, Sabrett! Great news!!:D I'm really happy for you!!!

I guess Princess doesn't release all their 09 itineraries at the same time. After reading your posted, I checked their website and the dates for Alaska May 09 still aren't out. :(

Twiddling thumbs, until I can book my date!! LOL!!! ;)

I think they are out. Check some other websites, or check with your travel agent. I knew the Caribbean 09 itineraries were going to come out on the 21st. My TA called Princess the night before and was able to book it for me even though no sites had it posted. All these days later, and it's still not posted on Princess' site. :D

You're funny. You actually think I can still have hair for my wedding?? Doubt it!! LOL. I will definately keep you post. So glad we have each other to keep our spirits up. My fiance is sooooo laid back it drives me nuts. If it were up to him he'd but a last minute trip to vegas and show up in some chapel in jeans and a t-shirt! Men....wish I could be stress free.
