Coastaljen Posted March 22, 2008 #1 Posted March 22, 2008 I tried to book the Claridge, but it says unavailable for my dates. However, I am thinking maybe it is too far ahead. I went to expedia and noticed many hotels in Buenos Aires said the same thing. When should I book for January?
Rare Peregrina651 Posted March 23, 2008 #2 Posted March 23, 2008 I tried to book the Claridge, but it says unavailable for my dates. However, I am thinking maybe it is too far ahead. I went to expedia and noticed many hotels in Buenos Aires said the same thing. When should I book for January? Jen, we are on the January 4 cruise and I am running into the same problem. I think you are right--the hotels just haven't started booking for January. However, since they are booking for December right now, I wonder if those dates will open up at the beginning of April. Also, I wonder if we were to contact the hotels directly (via e-mail) if we could book.
Coastaljen Posted March 23, 2008 Author #3 Posted March 23, 2008 I wondered the same thing about just e-mailing them. I did find two I would like (not Claridge). I e-mailed both on their website. IF I don't hear back by Tuesday, then I am going to e-mail Claridge. I e-mailed them last night (Saturday), so I assume Tuesday is plenty of time. I will let you know. I wish you were going on the same cruise. We need more on our roll call. ;)
Rare Peregrina651 Posted March 23, 2008 #4 Posted March 23, 2008 I I e-mailed them last night (Saturday), so I assume Tuesday is plenty of time. I will let you know. Don't forget that today is Easter and that business maybe taking a back seat for a few days. I wish you were going on the same cruise. We need more on our roll call. ;) Me, too but we can meet for breakfast/lunch in BA :D since you will be disembarking as we will be boarding. With the ship leaving so late in the evening, we will have almost an entire day in BA before boarding the ship. Not to worry, the roll calls will pick up in a few months and we will have plenty of people to talk to.
Coastaljen Posted March 23, 2008 Author #5 Posted March 23, 2008 It would be too neat to meet in Buenos Aires! We will talk prior. Right now I would be happy to just get the hotels. :) It may be early for roll calls, but last year there was a HUGE roll call for that December trip. You mean they aren't going to rush to answer my e-mail on Easter?! Sheesh.. . ;)
Jiminkcmo Posted March 23, 2008 #6 Posted March 23, 2008 I too saw very limited availability of hotel rooms in BA for Jan. 3rd through Expedia a few weeks ago. But I did find the Design Suites had rooms and it looks pretty good for about $154.00 plus tax. I'm booked on NCL Sun that departs Jan. 4th. The hotels may have a lot of bookings because it is near New Years. Just FYI. Jim
Coastaljen Posted March 23, 2008 Author #7 Posted March 23, 2008 Hmmmm. It is their high season. Well, if the two I e-mailed and asked for reservations say they are full, I am going to grab something that is available on expedia or something...
Jiminkcmo Posted March 23, 2008 #8 Posted March 23, 2008 I started getting concerned about New Years as I wanted to do a pre-cruise trip to Igaussu Falls and found all of the "reasonable" hotels booked at that time and then it occured to me that a lot of people are doing New Years there. So, I backed off the pre trip and started looking for hotels in BA at that time and found many are booked. Probably because of New Years. So, it will be one day pre-cruise in BA and one day post-cruise in Santiago or Valpariso. That'll have to work. Happy hotel hunting. Jim
dabear Posted March 23, 2008 #9 Posted March 23, 2008 We just returned from our cruise and stayed at the Claridge late Feb for 2 days. We booked about 10 mo ahead directly with the hotel when Expedia etc said no rooms available. We were very pleased with the hotel and it's a great location.
Coastaljen Posted March 23, 2008 Author #10 Posted March 23, 2008 Thanks! I just e-mailed them. I had no trouble getting a room in Sydney right in the tourist region for the Christmas time last year. I made those reservations in the fall. That is why I seriously wondered if they would be booked up at that time. I e-mailed them just now.
Sea Day Cruiser Posted March 23, 2008 #11 Posted March 23, 2008 Could you give me the email address for the Claridge in BA please.
Coastaljen Posted March 23, 2008 Author #12 Posted March 23, 2008 I was coming back for the same question. :( If you get an answer elsewhere, please post here. Both e-mails I tried bounced back. I found the e-mail adress on their home page. Then I clicked contacts and tried that. No luck. They aren't going through. Their entire website seems to be down. You click on rates, and it says no packages available. ugh.....
auntdot Posted March 23, 2008 #13 Posted March 23, 2008 I tried to book Claridge online (for Jan 31/09)- same thing - 'no rooms available for the dates you have requested'. So I emailed, and they came back telling me they would not have next year's prices until April, 2008. Then I read about 'wow! Argentina' (here on CC), a BA travel agent who has been great to work with! Cintia has been fantastic - replying to every email, looking for ways to save us some money, and overall being very professional. We had booked the Reconquista Garden on our own, and the travel agent's price was $45 less! In the end we booked a hotel in Recoleta for less than we would have paid for either Reconquista Garden or Claridge. Cintia has arranged our transfer from the airport, a tour of BA and the hotel. You may want to give her a chance to quote for you. (I think she may be closed until Tuesday for the holiday weekend, but I'm sure she would be checking email from home - cintia at wowargentina dot com dot ar) Dot
Coastaljen Posted March 23, 2008 Author #14 Posted March 23, 2008 That sounds great! Thanks. Are you only staying one night in Buenos Aires? Maybe I should just do that. I figured two days would be perfect, but the first day I will be off the ship early, so I can do things that day. Then the next day I will have an evening flight back.

Hi Coastaljen: We just got back form the Argentina - Valparaiso cruise. We did a pre-cruise on our own. I selelcted the Marriott Hotel in Buenos Aires because it is right at the end of Florida Street - the pedestran Mall. We arrived early but our room was waiting for us. When I saw the room after our 12 hour flight I was ready to crawl into the huge king size bed with six of the largest pillows I have ever seen. It was heaven. The people there were just gtreat - I booked on line - they confirmed right before we left and a wonderful buffet breakfast was included. We paid $185 plus tax for the night. I have no idea what the Clairidge charges, but the proximity to Florida street saved in taxi and strength! Just thought you would like to know. Enjoy! Ronnie
SoBaycruiser Posted March 25, 2008 #17 Posted March 25, 2008 We booked our room in BA and post-trip to Iguazu Falls (Jan 2008) in early June without problems. However, we did it through WOWArgentina travel agency. They were marvelous. They arranged all of our ground transport etc as well. Our hotel (Argenta Towers, I think) was near Florida street and was quite reasonable.
Rare Peregrina651 Posted March 25, 2008 #18 Posted March 25, 2008 Our hotel (Argenta Towers, I think) was near Florida street and was quite reasonable. Please tell us more about your hotel. Most of all, was it clean and well kept? What about the size of the rooms? What about the staff? Were they helpful and pleasant to deal with? I just checked out the photos on Expedia, does the hotel live up to the photos?? Thanks. PS -- Off to contact WOW. Seems from what I am reading the best way to handle things is through a BA-based TA.
Rare Peregrina651 Posted March 25, 2008 #19 Posted March 25, 2008 Coastaljen (and anyone else), e-mail me at peregrina651-rollcall at yahoo dot es (put an at-sign where it says at and a period where it says dot and then remove all the spaces). We can talk South America AND Baltic Sea cruise (loved it; wanna see my pictures?).
Coastaljen Posted March 25, 2008 Author #20 Posted March 25, 2008 I am going to use WowArgentina for BA, but I am booking directly through the hotel for Chile. I took care of Chile today. I am not going to take care of WOW until I book the airline ticket which won't be until June probably. Peregrine I will try to e-mail you this week. You have roll call in your e-mail? I want to know what type of prices we are talking with wow.
auntdot Posted March 25, 2008 #21 Posted March 25, 2008 My email is condor dot h at sympatico dot ca if you want my info from Cintia at WOW! Argentina. Are you waiting until June to book flights because of better pricing? I'm not sure what to do (we are within the 330 days now for our trip). In Valparaiso/ Santiago we are using someone recommended on these boards - Christian - for a full day tour from the ship and ending up at the airport. He sounds like fun and has answered all our questions and more!! Dot
Coastaljen Posted March 25, 2008 Author #22 Posted March 25, 2008 Dot, I am trying to send you lengthy e-mails, and they are bouncing back. Can you recheck your addy? I am not sure what is wrong because I am typing it exactly as you said without spaces. Thanks Jennifer

I am not sure what is wrong because I am typing it exactly as you said without spaces. Thanks Jennifer I did receive some emails from you today... hopefully all of them? and I have replied. I read your review on trip advisor!!!!! I could have forewarned you about the area around that hotel!!! Yikes!! Dot
Jeff&Liz Posted March 27, 2008 #25 Posted March 27, 2008 Aunt Dot - I posted this question on another thread too but since you are here thought I'd post here too. Did you pay in advance with wowargentina and fill out the info form? It seems to be asking for a lot of personal info. Anyone else experience with this? Thanks, Liz
