Cabins in the Regal Princess

April 2004 we sailed the Regal -- on outside on the Baja deck. It was fine, the bedspreads, towels and linens were fresh and not worn, nor was the carpet worn or dirty. The structure of the cabin is the same as the Grand OV cabins, but larger. And the bathrooms are larger, too, especially the shower. You can tell the Regal is an older ship, but she is in excellent condition! I really liked the more sedate, classy, traditional look of her.

I just returned from the Montreal-New York cruise on the Regal. She is an older ship and the soft furnishings (carpets, upholstered furniture, etc.) need to be replaced in many areas. I am not a fussbudget, so this didn't bother me too much; but friends on Aloha Deck were very unhappy with the condition in their stateroom.

I cannot dispute the opinion of jjones, but must say that I did not notice worn or soiled upholstery and carpets on the interior of the ship in the public areas we frequented or in our cabin (B297). And I am rather picky about interior decor and cleanliness. We did not, however, spend much time in the individual bars or the casino -- areas where the wear & tear would be more extreme. The show lounge and the dining room were in good condition.

I think she is a lovely ship in the older ocean liner style. Sailing on her was like a step back in time for us and quite enjoyable.

I hope others that have sailed the Regal will voice their opinion for you to read.

We have been on the Regal twice to Alaska. Once in 2002 and then again this past summer (July 2004). Both times we were very happy with the furnishings and our cabin. This past time we had a balcony room. The balcony is not large, but everything else is fine. In fact the bathrooms are very well set-up. The showers are large, large enough for my 450 lb, 6'5" tall husband to be comfortable in. You can see photos of the Regal on my website listed in my signature.

We got back from the NYC-Montreal cruise also on the Regal. We heard she will be doing some renovations, so that is good. Our room was fine but the main lounge area chairs weren't good. The buffet was run poorly and need some change as they weren't very efficient. For an older ship, she is in good shape, especially the Princess Theatre is like new.

We were on the cruise after Gloria. It was my first time on the Regal and I fell in love with this ship. She's just the right size -- lots of open passenger space for the number of passengers.

My cabin was on Fiesta Deck (deck 4), right near the Medical Center and the port disembarkation point. I didn't notice the carpet as dirty or dingy but after five days in port with people coming back from the beach, walking over volcanic lava, etc., it was really, really bad, even though they had it covered with plastic. (I bet you were wondering why they cover it -- it's to protect the carpet.) The last sea day before we arrived in LA, they completely replaced the carpet so it's an ongoing process, even during a cruise. I doubt they can replace carpeting in cabins during a cruise but I saw them doing the public spaces.

This is a great ship. The only wear I noticed in my cabin was the wood desk and bedside drawers, which looked as though they'd been varnished a few too many times. It wasn't bad. Just didn't look brand new. That didn't bother me. There was TONS of storage and a good-sized bathroom and shower.

I'd go back on the Regal any time I could. :)

I was on the September 11th sailing of the Regal and I also fell in love with this ship. We had an inside cabin and it was clean the carpets were not worn and the furnishings were nice. I loved the size of the cabin and the bathrooms are huge. I have heard she is soon to be spruced up so I'm sure it will make her that much nicer. The public areas do not scream "wow" but they are very classy. I hope to sail on her again someday.

According to her schedule Regal is scheduled to be 'out of service' from Nov. 13th thru Nov. 23rd. Have not been able to find any information as to what will be done during that period. In any event, its a great ship with a great crew. Most anyone sailing her will not be disappointed.

Here’s a link to my review of Regal Princess, including details on the refurbishments that are coming. I didn’t notice anything worn on the ship anywhere. She looked in fine shape to me and I’d be pleased to sail her again someday.

It seems to me that, with all of the traffic, carpets can't last more that 3-6 months before needing replacement. And, the same would go for some of the other furnishings.

I remember a cruise on the GRAND PRINCESS, when she was only 4 months old. Some of the furnishings in the Wheelhouse lounge were already falling apart!

I also recall a cruise on the ROYAL PRINCESS where the entire carpeting in the atrium area was replaced during a 14-day cruise! This was done during the wee hours of the morning, but you could notice that something was going on.

So, small refurbishments like these really don't require that the ship be taken out of service. And, with the amount of use that some of the furnishings receive, people's opinions of the ship can be vastly different over the course of a single cruising season.

The only time that I've seen the furnishings get run down a bit is when the ship is scheduled to leave the fleet. That's not happening to the REGAL PRINCESS anytime soon! (Although, I suspect that CARIBBEAN PRINCESS III might just knock the REGAL out of the PRINCESS line-up! :( )

Was your cabin on Fiesta Deck relatively quiet? Any other complaints I should know about cabins in that location? Any I should avoid? I was on Plaza deck on the Sapphire and loved the lower deck and out of the way cabin location. It was very quiet. Appreciate your feedback as I will most likely eventually sail on the Regal. Anyone else please jump in as well!

Can you comment on how remodeling will affect the Fiesta deck cabins?

Currently on the REGAL (in rainy Boston). My cabin (B135) is fine ... no signs of any aging. Various areas have been having their carpeting replaced throughout this cruise, so things are being maintained.

Several years ago I sailed in a FIESTA deck cabin on the old CROWN (the REGAL's sister ship). I would NOT recommend these cabins ... a bit small and near to the crew quarters. These can be quite noisy. :(

John... hope you're having a great time in Boston. :)

I was on the Regal in April/May for a Hawaiian cruise and was in one of the Fiesta deck (Deck 4) cabins. I loved it! However, temper that with the fact that I was a single in the cabin and the cruise was mostly sea days. Yes, on the port days there was noise but I never heard anything from the crew quarters except them playing ping-pong as I walked past. I never heard a thing, even though my cabin was close to the end near the crew. My avatar is a photo of the sea from the porthole.

Anyone else want to chime in? Thanks to all of you for this kind of inside info that only can be found here. What a great (and active) board!:)
