canon video batteries vs. generic

Is there any real difference between the two? Some reviews claim that the canon batteries hold a charge much better than the off brands but the canon batteries cost at least 2x as much. Any thoughts?

I can't speak to the 3rd party batteries for Canon but I can say that Energizer and Uniross both make some very good aftermarket ones that are as good but less expensive than the Oly or Sony ones!

 

One thing to be careful of is that many of the cheap lithium-ion ones available on fleabay and other sources is to make sure they have the same internal overload protection circuitry that branded ones have (and which is why they are often more expensive). Check out dpreview.com and some of the other camera-centric forums for recommendations.
