tmcauban Posted May 12, 2008 #1 Share Posted May 12, 2008 Just back from the April 28, 2008 crossing this year. Our fourth crossing on QM2 since the beginning of the ship. We were in the Britannia Restaurant, very spectacular as usual. Service was OK, but they insisted that you order your dessert upfront, at the beginning of the meal. Why? Sounds not much, but it turned out to be a bore as when dessert time comes, your mood and your appetite may have changed. But the main problem we had was that, overall, the food was much less good than last year, and could only be only called "Mediocre", an opinion unfortunately shared by many repeat passengers on board. Todd English was a big dissapointment with heavy food and huge portions, but we had been dissapointed by his restaurant in Las Vegas as well. If you go for quantity you will be satisfied. The Spa is wonderful, with great staff. Shall we go back? I wonder as I was so dissapointed by the food this year.

The Real PM Posted May 13, 2008 #8 Share Posted May 13, 2008 Hi Rob, Thank you--I did. I was in Maine at the ocean and it was beautiful. I kept looking out at the open sea and wondered where the QM2 was. I am hopeless. Gail:)
SeaMatesNYC Posted May 13, 2008 #9 Share Posted May 13, 2008 Took her out to dinner. She enjoyed the lobster. Glad to have found that neat restaurant on the bay! She loved every minute of it. :) You do anything special? That sounds lovely! No, my mom flew to California to be with my sisters, her daughters, so I was left to fend for myself! We had some lovely friends over (2 charming ladies from Bristol and 1 delightful gent from Brisbane) for dinner, and had quite a late night. Slept in until about 10am and dragged myself to work. Ugghh! Oh, and put in the obligatory phone call to Mother, but got her cell phone voicemail.

SeaMatesNYC Posted May 13, 2008 #11 Share Posted May 13, 2008 You sound neglected. Wonder if my boy's feel that it obligatory? Not so much neglected as a little disappointed we had not been invited to join them in Santa Barbara. But, the condo they are staying at is my brother-in-laws parents', and there would not have been room enough. In any case, with all the cruising this year, no vacation time left anyways! Of course, Mothers' Day is obligatory! Does not mean it's not heartfelt, though.

The Real PM Posted May 13, 2008 #16 Share Posted May 13, 2008 Oh, yes--in nine months time I'm doing very good, too. And my sons calls were heartfelt too, I believe. When we got home from Maine, my oldest son called and asked me to his house for dinner--very nice. My younger son called on his way to Goodspeed, it's an historic opera house in Connecticut which does Broadway plays. He is a musician--plays trombone there--eight shows a week, so we will have breakfast sometime this week. Did you ever hear of the Goodspeed Opera House, it is quite famous? warburg Posted May 13, 2008 #17 Share Posted May 13, 2008 Terribly sorry to interrupt the chat, but (ahem) is there any validity at all to the claim that the food on the QM 2 has declined in quality recently?
The Real PM Posted May 13, 2008 #18 Share Posted May 13, 2008 I can't say. I'm new on the QM2, so I don't really know if the quality of food has declined or not--only what other people have said. And the food was quite good in my opinion, but not excellent. Everything else about the ship was excellent however.
