lovedeals Posted June 29, 2008 #1 Share Posted June 29, 2008 Has anyone halibut fished in Valdez? My husband is trying to decide between seward and valdez. He fished years ago out of valdez, but cant remember where lol. On these boards people recommended salt water charters in Seward but as yet have not heard from them. I received an email a month or so ago asking for my phone number, but havent heard back. Also any advise where to stay in Valdez? Last time we used a b and b, but I think they have since gone out of busines. Thank you

We have stayed at the Keystone, which is an old barracks from the North Slope. It was more than adequate and the price is right. We walked everywhere, but it is not right down at the seashore. It may be half mile away. Then we stayed at the Valdez Hotel which is probably the top of the line with an indoor swimming pool and much more money. Rooms were small at the Keystone, but clean and very nice. Unlimited internet at Valdez Hotel, which is why we stayed there one time because I needed to work while there. CaptnPatty is one of the captains that I highly recommend, but we have been out with several others. I could deal directly with the boat because I always had a six-pack that wanted to fish, but I understand if you book through Fish Central the price is the same, but you get a break on your fish processing. Last year we caught over 350 pounds of fish (halibut, rock fish, silvers and lingcod). I have never fished Seward, but love Valdez. Janice
