Transfers from Adventure/Seas to Airport - One Way

Recommended Posts

We will be in Puerto Rico and traveling back to New York (one-way). When you use the transfers available from the ship, how does the luggage work--do they take it directly to the Airline you are traveling with, or must you carry it out through the Port at San Juan? Also, does anyone know what the rules are when traveling with liquor? Can you put it in your carry-on luggage? Thank you in advance for your helpful hints.

Not all airlines participate in the Luggage Valet program. You'll receive a form in your cabin a few days prior to debarkation with all the necessary information plus which airlines participate. I believe, in San Juan, your flight has to leave after 11:00AM if your particular airline participates.

As far as taking liquor home in your carry on.............they will confiscate it at the airport if it is more than 3 ounces and not in a one quart bag. If you want to take anything home, it will have to be packed in your checked luggage.

In San Juan, you retrieve your bags after you go through immigration, then drag them past customs. They will then direct you to where to drop off your bags for the transfer to the airport. And after that you will go get in line for your bus if you use the RCCL transfers. I highly recommend NOT getting RCCL transfers as taxis are much less expensive and easier to use in San Juan.

If you do not participate in the Onboard Luggage Valet program, you will have to retrieve your bags once you get to the airport then go and get in line.

If you participate in the Onboard Luggage Valet program, after you've dropped them off at the truck at the pier, you don't see them again until you get home.

Liquor must go in your checked luggage. In your carry on bags, you can only have one 1 quart size bag worth liquids and each of the liquids in that bag must be 3 oz or less.

I also agree with Wrona......do not take the transfers in San Juan. Taxis are much more efficient. We always pack any liquor in our checked bags and have never had a problem. You might want to have some large zip lock bags for that.

Here is my experience in San Juan (quite a few times). We normally exit the ship, pick up our luggage, walk outside the terminal, get in a taxi, and in a few minutes we are at the airport with our luggage safely in our possession. Meanwhile, those with transfers are still sitting on their buses waiting for the bus to fill-up. And another bonus is that a taxi costs less than $20 (total) between port and airport...which is less than any of the cruise lines charge for transfers. The last two taxi drivers we had in San Juan were semi-retirees from the states who both tried to convince us that we should buy a condo in PR. Hmmm. That is an idea
