seastar2 Posted October 18, 2004 #4 Share Posted October 18, 2004 Fraidycats What ship are you on in March that you are concerned about these ports?? I am on the Dawn 2/28 sailing and am hoping that these same port are still visited as I would assume the ship will be in good repair.
10XCRUISE Posted October 19, 2004 #5 Share Posted October 19, 2004 As of yesterday Grenada still does not have electricity. On a good day Grenada is a struggling island. IMHO Grenada it will be a long long time before they will be able to accept cruise ships.
YOW Posted October 19, 2004 #6 Share Posted October 19, 2004 And that's sad, really. They're better off than Haiti, but that's not saying much. Having been to the island last winter, we really feel for the people of Grenada. Hopefully they will be able to recover.
Grego Posted October 19, 2004 #7 Share Posted October 19, 2004 As of yesterday Grenada still does not have electricity. On a good day Grenada is a struggling island. IMHO Grenada it will be a long long time before they will be able to accept cruise ships. Our hope is that they will be able to accept ships ASAP with the prospect of providing addtional funds to this island. On another message posting, we promoted the thought that even if Princess wasn't able to visit this island, they would contribute the port taxes to them as a gesture of good will. seastar2 Posted October 19, 2004 #8 Share Posted October 19, 2004 In earlier threads and articles it was mentioned that Princess donated supplies to Grand Cayman..perhaps if other crusie lines did the same for other Islands then they all would get up and running again. As we all know the ships bring in most of their income..... ;) We have spent much time on these threads chatting about Grand Cayman, althought very severly hit, was in better shape then many of the other islands hit pior to the storms. RichardK Posted October 19, 2004 #9 Share Posted October 19, 2004 Grenada>>>With its English heritage, and being the banking capital of the Caribbean, they'll be up and running by then. Caracas>>>No!! Too much political unrest, and who knows when that will end......??
