Sad news from St.Maarten

The world famous Sunset Beach bar where you can go for plane spotting has been closed officially on Friday.

 

The owner's permanent residency has been revoked and the man has been deported from the island.

I surely hope someone does have the beach bar open in January. I was just telling DH today that as long as I have a place to eat and drink while I watch the planes I will be happy.

Probably not. The Gov. will probably be operating it to recoup monies lost. (Just a guess)

Beach bar or not, I'm still going to Maho in September when our ship ports at St Maarten. I don't go for the beach, nor for the bar...I go for the planes.

We love that bar. I took one of my favorite photos from there...it is of our son standing on the beach watching the plane carrying his fiance fly in.

We're scheduled for a tour in November when in St. Maarten. Our 3rd time to this lovely island. We always make a stop at Maho Beach. There's just no where else like it. Such an exciting rush you get standing in the sand under those big planes coming in over your head. You can smell the fuel! Scary, but so exciting.

 

Hope all is well and we can visit the bar for a cold drink. Love St. Maarten!

This is one of the best places to watch those Jets come in:eek: We have always gone there at least once everytime we go to the Island. Hope when all is said and done it remains the same quaint Bar and Grill and not some upscale establishment. All things seem to change, some for the better and some not.

We are stopping there on our tour with Bernard. I will report back when we get home. We don't sail until the 17 of August. Hopefully somebody will have been there bfore then to report on it!:)
