Coastaljen Posted August 4, 2008 #1 Share Posted August 4, 2008 Anyone take one? The hotel will pick me up for $45 and another company said $40 for one to two passengers. If I am going to pay the same for a taxi solo, I might as well just book one of those companies. Unlike Denmark, I know a lot of people won't know English there, and my Spanish book just isn't sinking in at the moment. Therefore, even though I hear taxis are cheap, I think it might be tougher to get a taxi, and they may overcharge me.
Rare Keith1010 Posted August 4, 2008 #2 Share Posted August 4, 2008 Based on what you have said, I would go with the Hotel Transporation. Keith
Coastaljen Posted August 5, 2008 Author #3 Share Posted August 5, 2008 Keith, I think my mother must be paying you to give me these answers tonight. (regarding walking around Montevideo and now the taxi) ;) Just teasing..but everyone thinks I am nuts when I go places and try to navigate them instead of paying for a walking tour ..or in this case a taxi. :-) I just figured if someone said only pay $20 for a taxi maximum, then I would know, and only pay that. I spent l2 weeks in Rio when I was young (maybe 20), and I am still amazed I came back o.k. Everyone else seemed to be having issues with petty crime, etc., and somehow I managed to do o.k. getting lost everywhere. The stupid things we do when we are young......... off topic--The funniest thing was I took a city bus in Rio, and I figured it would go in a circle, and I could always just get off where I got on. It didn't. I just know that eventually it stopped at a place with a lot of busses, and everybody was gone and the driver left. My biggest concern was my chocolate melting in the heat that I bought. I guess I need to get a little more urbanized. Thanks, Jennifer
robinpow Posted August 10, 2008 #4 Share Posted August 10, 2008 Last year I paid the $35 which was about $5 more than a cab. Booking through the hotel has several advantages. First no lines to get a taxi, know you will have a nice car, you know the rate in advance, and best of all you can put it on your hotel bill. (keep your cash for the fun stuff)
