If you want a great view of Mt. Etna without an actual trip there, I would highly recommend a trip to Taormina. It's a beautiful town perched high on a cliff overlooking the Mediterranean. There's an ancient Greek amphitheatre with an amazing view of Mt. Etna. When we were there, you could clearly see the smoke rising from the top of the mountain. Plus, Taormina is wonderful. Enjoy!

That's a tough question. I just went last week on a tour and was surprised how far it was from Taormina. About 2 hours. It was amazing to see but after about 15 min not much to do. I personally wouldn't do it again. Spend the time in Taormina and at the beach there. Either way you'll have a great day.
